non-native language for 4 yrs?

I know that 4 years of the same language is recommended for top-tier schools. Well, I
m going to have 4 years of language, but the thing is, it will be my native language (Japanese)
But I
m not taking like beginners Japanese courses. In 9th grade, I went to a Japanese school in Japan, so basically my language course was Japanese( I also had English courses as well). In 10th grade, I did pre-IB Japanese A1. For my junior/senior years, I will be doing IB Japanese A1.
Will this hurt my admissions( the fact that I
m doing my native language)? I couldn
t really take another language, and I also wanted to be fully bilingual.

The fact that you're bilingual will probably make up for your classes in your native lanuguage. I think, if a school were being fair, that you're just fine. You obviously became fluent in English, which is not your native language. Most high school kids who take four years of a language don't come near fluency anyway. coughcough :)

A school could argue that your classes were easier because they were in your native language... but if the point of taking a language course is to learn a second language, and you have already fulfilled that part of your education, then I don't see the problem.

Well the thing is, an A1 language course is almost the equivalent of like say, an AP English course.
So basically, I` m taking something similar to that, only in Japanese (for IB)
Do you think it is okay?

japstudent, do you live in Japan? you might not care but i do :P... its probably my first time coming across a Japanese guy after a whole year of lurking! yay!

oh, am my old school used to do that. Japanese native speakers took IB Japanese HL and stuff. Don't worry. People doing this from this school got into excellent schools like HYP and other ivies.

I think its a plus, because despite being one of the world's leading nations, Japanese is underrepresented within Asians in American colleges. it may give you a slight advantage... (i hope so, because I take Japanese too :))

rexer:
no,actually I don
t live in Japan lol. I go to an international school outside of Japan. And by the way, I
m a girl, hehe.
Thanks for your advice!! - I really do hope I have a slight boost with my ethnicity hehe.

oh youre a girl! sorry bout that... you should have no worries once again for your course load. Youre taking 4 IB HLs and 3 IB SLs in one year stalk stalk as a junior?! that schedule is definitely more rigorous than what will be required even for top schools. which schools are you shooting for? im a sophomore too ;)

check your private message, i explained my situation in the message
