"Non-Official Clubs"

Hey guys, I am new to this forum and this is my first post! I'm wondering if forming some sort of a club outside of school would still be recognized or considered legitimate if put on a college app, thanks in advance all.

Extra curricular means anything outside the classroom. The answer to your query is YES.

But if I were to interview you, I’d ask: “What need did your club fill that wasn’t already existent in your community?”

Why? Because “I started a club” has become a mercenary cliche among students hoping to get into selective schools. I tend to be cynical about this rather common resume padder. If someone said to me: “I was elected to be the Vice President to a decades old group and I busted my tail working for the org and meeting its mission” – that would impress me more than another “charity fundraiser”.

Like I said, I tend to be cynical. Plz don’t let that deter you from something legitimate however.

Thanks, for your quick reply T26E4, I really appreciate it. Also, do i have a chance to explain that in the app? Sorry, I have never seen an app yet.

Yes, along with the primary common app essay, there is a short answer question that asks you to explain one of your ECs and it’s impact on you, etc. You can use that for that activity or if not, there is an "additional information’ section on common app and you can include information on that club there.
