Honestly Chicago is perfect for you (I can't believe you didn't know it was a haven for nerds!! That + the academics is all people talk about when they mention the place.) You are more a nerd than you are weird (no offense intended) or alternative. Brown/ Vassar party just as much as other schools do, and in fact have a higher weed use level than most. Brown is also full of chill, tolerant people - but more the non-judgemental fun kind or the artsy indie rock star kind - not the "nun" type you describe yourself to be. I think you could tolerate Brown or Vassar, but they aren't the right fit at all if you ask me. I think you miscalculated. I have partied at Brown often, and I love the place. But I am the opposite of you - my goal is to be successsful while having as much fun as possible along the way.

Chicago is full of quirky, nerdy, types who like to use unnecessary vocabulary and who hang out in the library for fun. Its the only top school in the country where partiers are looked down on and kids post threads like "do you have friends" and most say they don't (until they get to Chicago that is.) Its nirvana for nerds. Maybe you could transfer in if you don't like the school you start at initially? Or maybe you'll change?

Well, different people construe 'fun' in different ways. So we could be doing the same: trying to be successful while having as much fun as possible along the way.

Brown is still a haven for nerds, in a sense. There are facilities that make it such viz., the quiet dorms.

I just want to formally object to the idea that Brown has "a higher weed use level than most." This is a stereotype that I just don't understand, having been here now for a year and a half. Sure, when weed is smoked it is smoked less furtively than in other places, but the same is (very) true of alcohol here - it's kinda the nature of Brown. There is just nothing to back up the weed stereotype.

Well, I'm not really a partyerer, but I'm also fantastically cool....I'd perhaps go as far in saying that I'm slamming. I applied to both Brown and Chitown.

I'm not saying its reefer madness nor do I think higher weed use is a pejorative. Perhaps its like most schools, no more no less. I have seen plenty of it visiting Brown.

There's plenty of weed at most colleges. At Brown, it's just more open, because the administration condones it to a greater degree (or at least tolerates it).

Brown has one of the biggest (and best) party scenes of the ivys, but I'm sure there will still be people who appreciate your nerdy ways, tkm. ;)

I'd say there are a lot of nerdy people at Brown, but there's more diversity in types of nerdiness than at Chicago. But if you're looking for more of a Chicago-style nerdiness evironment at Brown, try ADPhi (co-ed literary society), St Anthony Hall (co-ed literary frat), or Tech House (program house). I haven't hung out much at Tech house, but a lot of the people I know at ADPhi and St A's remind me of the people I hang out with at UChicago.
