Hello. I am looking to transfer to UPenn or Columbia University. The teacher who knows me best and who would write the best letter of recommendation for me is a graduate student. Would it hurt my application to have a graduate student rather than a professor write my letter of recommendation?

A grad student is fine IF they were your instructor/TA in a college course.

I, personally, believe that if you could get two college professors writing them, that would be the best result, but if you believe with all your heart that the graduate student would be the one who could write the best and most compelling recommendation for you then don’t run from that option.
