Non-Resident Question..

<p>I have been living in California my whole life but moved to Utah during my sophomore year of High School. After I graduated I came back to CA during the summer, undecided on if I wanted to stay for college or return to Utah. Time was of the essence so I returned to Utah for 1 year of College. </p>

<p>I have completed that year and now want to finish school in California, is there any way I can get around paying Out of State Fees? It is at least 5 times more than in state tuition.</p>

<p>Even then, you have to show that you can support yourself financially and your parents can’t claim your on taxes for 2 years:</p>

To be considered a California resident for purposes of fees, an out-of-state student must have lived in California for more than one year preceding the residence determination date, relinquish residence in other states, show an intent to establish residency in California and demonstrate financial independence. Unmarried undergraduates from other states qualify as financially independent if they were not claimed by their parents or others as dependents for tax purposes for two preceding tax years and if their annual income is sufficient to meet their needs.
