I am a student with TPS (temporary protected service) I am Salvadorian & have been in the US for 14 years now I am currently filling out my Fafsa and I put myself down as an non resident but I want to know if I even qualify for that can someone help me? Thanks :)

Did you talk to your guidance counselor at your school and ask for help with this? I am not sure if you are eligible for Federal Aid, I’m afraid the answer might be no but I am not familiar with this completely, just made a quick web search. You may be eligible for state or institutional aid. What state are you in and what colleges are you applying to?

You should call FAFSA Helpline or your school to find out. However, see http://■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■/question/index?qid=20110316184927AAPuOtA

Gloria, please realize that the above quote is not from anything official–it is just an answer some random person with no stated credentials posted on a question board and carries no weight or authority–might be right, might be wrong. Just like here - do your own verifying and call FAFSA as suggested above, but I have to admit it looks unlikely based on other things I have read–info from college websites and newspaper articles.

This booklet may help you find resources. Although it is meant for undocumented people, which you are not, it has resources listed that may help you and your guidance counselor.

Ok, the official links: https://fafsa.ed.gov/help/fotw15a.htm or http://studentaid.ed.gov/eligibility/non-us-citizens
And TPS is not an eligible noncitizen status.

More, an unofficial link: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/financial-aid-scholarships/1149410-do-i-use-fafsa-non-resident-help.html

However, you should really call FAFSA Helpline or your school’s financial aid office to find out.

I think this is the “most official” official link: http://ifap.ed.gov/fsahandbook/attachments/1112FSAHbkVol1Ch2.pdf

Still you should contact FAFSA Helpline or you school for confirmation.

Thank you all for the help
I’m not sure what other financial aid I would be able to get if I’m not eligible for fafsa becauSe I don’t think I can do the dream act since I am not ab540 & it’s really stressing since I am a senior at the moment.
