someone do this algebraically?

y=2x-8 what is the minimum value product xy could be?

ok i figured out a way but it’s no algebraic is the answer -8? If so can someone still explain how to do it logically without something like guess and check?

THANKS

First, this should be posted in the AP forum.

Second, you’re correct.

Third, here’s how I did it:
y=2x-8
xy=N
x(2x-8)=N
N is minimum when its derivative = 0.
4x-8=0
x=2
y=-4
xy=-8
