Non-stereotypical jobs for teenagers

I turned 17 just last December, and am about to start my second job  small retail positions do it for me. I got my first job at Godiva chocolates with no experience at all (making $8+ an hour) and now I’m going to work for an amazing little store that sells handmade cosmetics/soaps/bath stuff.

shrug

it’s not my career choice, obv, but everything is definitely true about the close-knit environment, the relatively good pay for a teen job, and the Very flexible hours (my EC schedule is pretty crazy)

I intern at the Attorney General’s Office.
They offer internships for college students, but if your grades are high enough, they’ll certainly give you an interivew. My mother used connections to get me the interview, but I’m sure you don’t need them. It’s a pretty cool job, depending on where you get placed. I do Identity Theft, and I must say it provided valuable skills in both real life and protecting identities… haha

I work at a concert venue (Merriweather Post Pavilion). Granted, it’s a stereotypical job because I do concessions (but this year, since I just turned 18, I can sell beer), but you basically get to listen to big concerts for free and actually go see the artists perform during your breaks. There’s also awesome opportunities to work HUGE events like Virgin Festival and apparently this year, everyone at our company is driving up to Michigan for Rothbury Festival.

Season opener this year is Santana. Preeetty exciting.

I’m working retail sales at a local bike shop. Basically I get to talk about bikes all day and sell bikes to people ranging from beginners to hard-core riders.

Sometimes I also get to work on peoples’ bikes.

It fits right in, because I’m an avid recreational cyclist and have also started a road cycling club at my school. Best of all, it’s a job I actually look forward to.
