Non-teacher Rec Help

Okay, so I want to get one non-teacher rec and I have two options:

-My lacrosse coach, who I know writes really good reccomendations and will probably write me a great one(he wrote me one for my NHS application).

-My mentor that I work with researching lung cancer. He is a professor at a local university. He will most likely write me a good rec.

I plan on applying early to Dartmouth and i want if anyone thinks Dartmouth (or other colleges) will value one more than the other. I know my coach will write me a great rec but i have never seen a rec written by mentor.

Thanks in advance for any help!

come on cc people, any input would be appreciated!

Since you’re confident about the coach’s ability, go with him.

His angle on you will be different than your teacher recs, anyway. Whereas your mentor’s rec will be similar to the teacher recs and therefore, shed less new info about you to the readers.

Agree - go with the coach. You want someone who knows you, and can write well about you, in a non-academic context for that 3d rec.
