Today, QU announced “non-traditional” spaces for some incoming Freshmen. They will create some triples and some 8-person rooms. My daughter received a call today advising her that she was placed in an 8-person room. We are trying to remain open minded but this is certainly a curve ball. One more stress point to add to the mix. If they felt it was necessary to call her today (July 27) you would think they could at least give the courtesy of telling her who the 7 other roommates are, rather than make them all wait until August 1 like everyone else. It’s only a few more days, but this will only add to the anxiety. And, it would certainly be a good gesture of the Office of Residence Life gave these kids top picks in next year’s housing lottery.
UPDATE: They released housing assignments and roommates just hours after I posted the above. Great move by QU. Once my daughter connected with her roommates and determined they all seem “normal” her anxiety level went way down. Hoping for the best!
@wisteria100 it is one big room with bunks. Not at all like the 8 person suites which consist of 4 doubles and a common room. They tell us they are very large, but it is hard to tell from the pictures. There appears to be far less room than an 8 person suite. They are exploring de-stacking the beds and lofting them, but we don’t know if that will work because the room is also oddly shaped.
Commons has 8 person rooms and Ledges has triples, all set up in study lounges. My D, however, got moved 2 days ago to a regular room. They are trying to break up the non-traditional housing as spaces open up.
Yes, it was due to overcrowding HOWEVER all of the girls in D’s room have been placed in regular housing. I don’t know if they broke up all of the non-traditional rooms or not. But it seems they did make at least a very big dent in it!!!
And, the Res Life staff was great to work with. Talking through options and offering to provide visits to the non-traditional space, before she was moved.
Good luck with your search! My D moves in Thursday!
