I have been a little worried about the whole living situation since I am 23 years old, but transfered in as a freshman. Does anyone have any advice? Am I wrong to be worried? Are there going to be a fair amount of students around my age? Can someone help ease my worries about the situation?

There are a fair number of students at UMass who are 23 (because a lot of people take more than 5 years to graduate). However, they won’t be living in the freshman dorms, most of them will be living off campus or in upperclassman housing. If you don’t want to be surrounded by 18 year old who’ve never been away from home, but still want to be on campus, I would recommended living in Sylvan. A lot of people think its kind of isolating because its suite-style and harder to meet people, but that’s where a lot of transfer students/grad students/older/non-traditional students live.

Alaroc - given your age, are you required to live in a dorm even though you will be a freshman?

If you want a dorm, Cashin (in the Sylvan area) houses grad students and non-traditional students. And it is open all 12 months if you need it.

Are any of the non-trads planning on living in non-trad housing?

I will be living in sylvan
