to all non traditional student transfer hopefuls: I've been reading through many of these threads and I have seen a few of you posting questions, so I know I'm not the only one. I would love to here from you. questions are welcome and I would love to hear success stories since it gives some of us hope...better yet

THATS ME!!!! im one of those non trad student. Hello.
Can I hear your story?

sorry for my ignorance...but what do you mean by you are a "nontraditional" transfer student?

Non-traditional students is a student at the higher education institutions (undergraduate college or university) who are older than the typical undergraduate college student (usually aged 17-23).

I got into all UCs I applied for, UCB econ, UCLA biz econ, UCSB biz econ, and UCSD econ. I'm about 4 years older than most of my class mates and I didn't have any significant leadership skills and ec's like clubs and stuff.

maxx99, were you at a CC, and if so, what was your GPA?

yeah, I was at a CC, 3 different ones as a matter of fact. My GPA was 3.96, that's what ultimately got me in I guess.

WOW, how the hell did all of those schools reject you? I though a GPA that high at a CCC for all of those schools. Did you not have your prereqs done or something?

I think you must have misread something. I actually got accepted by those schools.

lol nuveen. you read it wrong..maxx99 got into all those schools (nice work maxx99 btw.)

and thank you jmerc for clarifying that.

oh hahahahaha, congratulations! I was really concerned for what it takes to get in there for a while.

jmerc is correct...non-traditional is anyone basically entering after a gap in education, usually older than just coming out of HS...it could also be re-entry students, students who obtained a GED instead of a traditional diploma. A lot of us have overcome great obstacles that often make us unique.

jmerc, what's your stats? where do you want to go? I'll post my story when I get back from class...yes I have a class on Sunday, actually 2, it kinda sucks but at least the classes aren't crowded.

I am a nontrad. I am glad someone started this thread.

I think there should be a whole separate forum.

I am 23 and getting married in a couple months. I am days away from finishing a four year enlistment in the military. I studied Arabic in the military at the Defense language Institute and hope to one day study at the best Arabic department in the country at Georgetown University.

Oh yeah, forgot to mention that, I'm married and German, that's pretty non-trad I guess. Couple years older, married, and international

wow, what a diverse group. That's great to see...ok, here it goes
major: Sociology
GPA: 3.69 it was 4.0 until the Mandarin classes (boy were those hard!)
prereq:2/3
EC: too numerous to count
goal: I have a transfer agreement w/ UCD which is great but I would really like to get into CAL. I am 36, married w/ two kids work two jobs and both my husband and I are both full time students.

Maxx, that is great about all those schools accepting you. Escpecially CAL, what is your secret? lol,lol

I think it was the GPA and my work experience

I am a 22 year old male recovering from dropping out of college a few years ago. currently i have a 3.54 GPA at a community college in manhattan. As far as the universities I want to transfer to, im not quite sure. I was looking into the colleges around NYC such as City College, NYU, but im not sure if they will be a good experience for me. I want to major in Physics and so far my number one school right now is Stony Brook University. I am a little afraid of moving into a dorm with much younger students, thats why I am a little hesitant about universities far away. any one else feels this way?

So with all those acceptance letters, which one did you chose? I have a quick question for you. Do the acceptance letters for CAL come in a thick envelope or a thin envelope? My friend got rejected last year and she said she didn't receive a letter at all she had to find out when they posted it online.

For me it was first posted online, then a couple days later I got the letters in the mail. I chose UCLA. Without any regrets, but it was still tough to reject Cal.

what are your plans after college, maxx99?
