Non-transferable Classes

Hey I have a quick question about non-transferable courses. Do the UC's even look at them? I am in a situation where I got my Intermediate Algebra waived, and now I am taking Elementary Statistics here in the winter session. The catch is is that I was taking Intermediate Algebra during the Fall semester, but I dropped the class and received a W and got it waived by the administrative office to take Stats. I already submitted my updated grades for the Fall and displayed my Algebra class as a Withdrawal. Should I explain to them? My stats class will help me fill the math requirement for finishing my IGETC. I hope this doesn't jeopardize my application.

Thanks! :)

The UCs see them, but they disregard them, when calculating ur GPA. UNLESS you applied to UCB, UCB looks at ALL grades (unless you applied to a major in L&S; L&S only looks at transferable course work).

shouldn’t hurt if you didn’t get bad grades in those courses

shouldn’t hurt you even if you did get bad grades.

And how are you supposed to know if classes from 4 yr uni’s transfer? counselor help? lol cuz I am def. having that issue now.

when graduate schools calculate your gpa do they include your ccc’s nontransferable classes?

My school lists which systems (UC/CSU) each class transfers into on the schedule of classes.

If your’s doesn’t, you might be able to compare your transcript using ASSIST. Look up the classes you aren’t sure about using the GE listing and major pre-req listing, it it is on either of those lists then it is transferable. Ctrl-F will help you with this method.

The UC’s calculate your community college credits in terms of pass/fail. They do not impact your GPA shown on the UC transcript that graduate schools will see. With that being said, if you where to transfer to a school that calculates your lower division classes into the GPA, graduate schools tend to only care about your upper division classes.

Do the one unit PE classes like swim, yoga and so on count as part of the 60 units needed to transfer or do we need 60 academic units?

Yes, PE classes count. I didn’t find that out till I did my UC app, though I think they only take a maximum of 4 PE units.
