I was born in China and am a US Permanent Resident, but the languages section is confusing me. What does the Common App mean by "first language"? Is that literally the language I learned first or do they mean which language I know best? Because I learned Chinese first but my English is better now.

Also on an another note, do they want a photocopy of my green card? Front and back or just one side...?

“First language” refers to the language you natively speak. If you could choose any language to converse in most fluently, which would you choose? That is your “first language.” It does not necessarily have to be the language you chronologically learned first in your life.

While not critical, and I certainly don’t know what Common App’s official policy is on this, I generally stick to providing both sides of any identification requested. If you have access to a flatbed scanner (any FedEx Office location or similar store) should be able to take care of both sides for you.

Thanks for the help! :)
