My school does not have a cycling team. I started a cross country cycling club with friends and have biked approximately an hour a day for the past four years. However, we haven't competed in any major competitions. Would this be considered a worthy extracurricular to put on my Harvard application?

Anything is a worthy extracurricular as long as you can explain your role in and growth through the activity.

I realize that. However, with barely 30 characters to describe each extracurricular activity and better essays topics, I'm not sure whether to use my limited EC spaces for cycling or something like French club which is more a once a month sort of deal.

you can always send in an activity list. It helped me express, in depth, my involvement and growth in my extracurriculars. I wrote a paragraph on each activity.

I think that something that you started yourself like the cycling club would seem a lot more important (and more important to you) than a once a month French club. It doesn't matter that you haven't entered competitions...it's about the initiative that you took in an area that interests you.

This is random, but I was sad all day until just a while ago. I told some people that I got deferred from H, but this kid wanted to be an ass (he hates me) by saying he got in (he's been bragging to his friends all week from what I hear). So, I said "really?"

Him: "Yep."

Me: "Is the scholarship good enough?"

Him: "Hell yes... I got a full ride 'cuz of playin' football"

Now, this is where I had to refrain from laughing:

Me: "You didn't get in and you sure as hell didn't get a full ride scholarship for playing football."

Him: "Yeah, I did, dude. They just thought I was good 'nuff. Don't get upset because you didn't get in and I got in with a full scholarship"

Me: "No, you didn't..."

Him: "And, why do ya say that, f a g?"

Me: "Well, for one, Harvard doesn't offer merit-based scholarships... only need-based..."

Dead Silence; he says "whatever" and runs off somewhere

I felt a bit bad for doing that, but he was a bit too cocky...

:)
that made me smile.
hahaha
btw my bf was lying too. he didnt get in inspite of a 2370. the idiot. took out all his frustration on our relationship.
hahaha
i feel somewhat guilty laughing at him. but anyways, my revengeful heart seems to be purring in contentment and for the time being thats all i care about . :D
