I'm a little nonplussed by my Jan SAT essay score. I received an 11 this time. However, I expected a 9 at most. It was probably one of my worst writings. I don't know what to think about this. Receiving an 11 seems like a reach for my crappy essay. Perhaps it was because this essay was my longest one so far.. (1 1/2 page).

Did anyone else receive an essay score that was not expected(either lower or higher)?

Nearly filled up 2 full pages (was like 3-4 lines short)
Used 2 examples, but explained them thoroughly (1 personal, 1 literary)
4 paragraphs (Intro, Ex #1, Ex #2, Conclusion)
Used a decent amount of high-end vocab, I made sure I only used words that fit.

I thought this was one of my better essays and was expecting at least a 10, possibly 11. Got a 9. :/

I thought my essay with OK-ish at best, but I think that its saving grace was the sheer number of SAT vocab words I dropped in it, starting with “sagacious” in the first sentence (bam!) to “machinations” to lots of other words I can’t recall :p.

Jeff - what did you get overall on the Jan SAT :)? I’m excited to hear your score :D.

Sorry! I don’t really wish to share my SAT score. I didn’t do as well as I had expected. However, I will say that my superscore is extremely close to a 2400. I think I’ll take one more perhaps in December-ish?

The SAT essay grading is ridiculous at best. As you probably know, it’s graded not on quality persay. Just master the art of BSing and fill both pages. :D

^I think the most important things people should know about the SAT essay are:

1) Fill the two pages with normal-sized writing. The more you write, the better your score will likely be. Obviously, don’t try to write size 108 block letters …

2) Factual accuracy does not matter. If you have to make up a historical example, so be it.

I am also nonplussed. I got a 9 on an essay I thought would score a 10 for sure. I used two examples (Brutus betrays Caesar and Chillingworth betrays Dimmesdale), wrote almost two full pages and used some good descriptive words like perfidious. I noticed that very few CCers got an 11 or 12.

I took the december SAT and was really disappointed with my essay score. filled the two pages, used a non-fiction book including a study as one example, personal story as another. Thought I would at least get a 10, but ended up with a 9 which brought my score down…

I used 1 example, developed fully and used every line available (350-400w). I didn’t, however, get to use much good vocab and I also strayed off topic a little imo. But I got an 11, while expecting 9-12 :P

mine was pretty bad i thought
filled up both 2 pages
examples were: rosa parks/Seattle mariners/colonel sanders from kfc
for the hardships and problems one
