Noob Question

<p>I see a lot of ppl asking about their chances to apply for a particular college department... like "chance me for UC Chem!" </p>

<p>but i thought u don't apply for individual schools/subjects until AFTER admission into college?</p>

<p>Partial answer #1: Some majors have such extensive course requirements that students are expected to start them freshman year. Science, Engineering, and Arts come to mind though I’m sure there are others.</p>

<p>Partial answer #2: Some majors are so competitive that there’s a limit on how many students are accepted into the program. Transferring in can be extremely difficult, so most students who want that program at that school need to apply at time of admission.</p>

<p>but at the CommonApp, i don’t recall seeing any section asking for your subject choice…</p>
