I wanted to sign up for a day, but I was not sure about my schedule. I just cleared up most of my schedules and decided to make rsvp to learn that all the slots are full. Do you think that they will be able to fit just one more person?

what if we just show up on welcome day without rsvping (since all the slots are full)? Will they still let us stay? I doubt they'll tell us to go home...

I'm just going to fly down for a day and try and do one of the campus tours. Not quite the "welcome day" but you can always explore the campus on your own right? I'm already sold on UCLA, I just want to check it out.

Yeah, I'll be doing the campus tour thing as well, since the slots are full...

I sent in the SIR to UCLA without visiting campus. I've only heard good things about UCLA, so I wanted my email address early. ;)

Um, is there anyway to confirm that your registered for Welcome Day? I thought I did last week, but I don't know where to confirm it... any help would be appreciated!

You should have gotten an email confirming your reservation for Welcome Day.

Would it matter if we didn't go on the day we signed up for and went with a friend on a different day instead? I have a friend who is going a day before me, and was wondering if anything would affect me if I went with her instead of going on the day I signed up for.

[[ Ex: If certain papers are passed out/attendance recorded/etc. ]]

Yes, it would matter. They cross out your name on the guest list when you pick up papers for Welcome Day.

Ah, all right. Thanks!

So u cant just show up? I was late and its already full, what do i do?

You can take a regular campus tour or ask a friend to kick out one of his/her guests and take you instead. =)

They do have a roster/roll sheet when you check in. If you just show up, I don't think they'll allow you into the conference room where they have speakers talk, and you definitely won't be able to try out the dorm food unless you know someone on campus with a premier account who wouldn't mind swiping you in, but you could probably tag along with the tour group.

are the tours much diffrent from the welcome day? Wouldnt i get way more information on welcome day?

Yea, I doubt they let you join. I mean they probably wouldn't tell you to go home, just leave where they're speaking. Another reason is they won't have an extra meal coupon or whatever for you.

yeah i have the same problemo. boo.

How many people go for each Welcome Day, anyway? 100? 200?

About 450 people are present at Welcome Day.

huh, they never once asked for my name. anybody could have shown up.

um they cross your name off pnce you check in.

Welcome day was not anything too special. Ill go over briefly the events of Monday April 10th.

7:30 AM Left home from Alhambra, CA
9:00 AM 2 Lanes on 405 closed due to accident, had to take local
9:30 AM Arrived at UCLA (Late :( )
9:31 Welcome speech ended
9:35 Listened to a powerpoint presentation on Life sciences, questions were asked/answered
10:30 Spoke with a graduate about Campus Life
11:30 Lunch at De Neve dining hall
12:30 Campus Tour <---you can easily sign up for these seperately as I found it to be the only exciting part of the trip
2:18 <---shop at the student store. Bought a 52 dollar sweatshirt but had a 20% off welcome day coupon
2:30 Housing Tour (saw a triple room at De Neve)
4:00 Went back home
6:00 got home

The day was long, some of the information was pretty helpful but if you're looking for bands, parties, rallies, there wont be any until orientation. But the tour with the meal at De Neve really "broke me" into the system because I think I've had a pretty good feel of the campus and the locations of the buildings. It couldve more exciting but at least I won't have to be lost when I first enter school.
