Nooooooo!!!

I've been waitlisted to so many places. Do I have any hope left, I still have a few other schools? If you're wondering I've been waitlisted to Rice, Carnegie Mellon, and Washu. There's probably more to come. Is there something wrong with me or my application? Why is every school waitlisting me? What does waitlisted say about me- that I'm not competitive enough? Please someone help. Alright I'm done. Thanks.

Well, I hear that schools are making a massive wait list because they don't know how many people will actually enroll to their schools in this recession. Its probably not uncommon to get a lot of waitlists this year (last year, this would have been an unusual circumstance, however). Relax, and spend your days writing letters of interest to these schools. One of them is bound to take you off the waitlist and accept you.

I'm sorry you're waitlisted, but a waitlist is not a rejection, you may still have a chance. I don't know you personally so I can only take a general guess and list some possible reasons. WashU sometimes waitlists students who show no interest, which is understandable. Did you schedule an interview even if the interview is optional? Did you apply for their scholarships?

To add on to what es2642 said, being waitlisted is basically the admissions officer's insincere way of saying " You're qualified to attend your school and we just don't have enough room but at the same time we don't want to let you go." Believe me, being waitlisted is a blessing in disguise. I would say there is a slim to no chance at all of being taken off the waitlist at smaller institutions such as Rice and Amherst. To reiterate what es stated, just make you follow up with well-written statements of interest to the universities and your chances of being admitted to the school will be higher.

What does this say about my chances at other colleges that I have yet to hear from. Likely to be waitlisted as well?

I appreciate the help and advice, thanks a lot you guys.

Worriedhssenior, no. Different colleges have different admissions criterias so one college's decision isn't a reflection of another's. It was just a mere coincidence that you were waitlisted at all 3 schools.

Well, your Private Uni's are more likely to waitlist you than a public school. Privates just don't know how many people will actually attend in these tough times.

I am sure a solid acceptance will come with time. Be patient.

The real question is do you have a safety among your applications? All the schools you've listed so far are difficult to get into. If you have a true safety that you are willing to attend then you should be fine.

What Erin's Dad said.

What sillyworld said

Of course I have a safety. I understand that these colleges are competitive but I just found it to be heartbreaking that I was waitlisted to all three of them. I feel like I must of done something wrong for things to turn out this way. I just don't want to get waitlisted to all of my school, or worse rejected.

Anyone have any clue how useful the waitlist will be this year?

Also I just want to let everyone know I applied to engineering.
