My APUSH teacher is MAKING us buy the REA prep book. I aksed him if i could we could use Amsco instead and he said no.

so, i've heard that REA and Amsco are the best, but more people tend to lean towards Amsco......is there a big difference, or will either book suffice for a 5.

My friend used REA to study for the test, and basically crammed for AP USH a week before it and got a 4 (I think). It was pretty good if you realize that he didn't really do that well on my teacher's tests which were supposed to be on the slightly harder side of the AP test

He said that the only thing that saved him was the review book.

REA is the only apus book i used last year, so i cant really compare. i thought its tests were a lot harder than the actual ap exam, which is an extra plus i thought. i like books that overestimate (like some barron's) the difficulty.

yeah i agree with andrea. its no where close to the "end of the world" (MIT prompt this year). i know people with amsco who got a 3 and a lot who just used pton review and got a 5. i personally used rea and thought it was pretty well organized. i read it over the week before the exam and got a 5. i think test prep's purpose is just to refresh what you learned in class, so REA served its purpose well.

My daughter used both AMSCO and REA. She liked REA so much better than AMSCO; she chose to read the REA through twice in the weeks leading up to the exam. She ended up with a 5.

Don't sweat it. REA is an excellent prep for APUSH. Use both if you prefer.

He used AMSCO a few weeks before the test in class; we basically went through the whole thing as a review. I also looked up somethings on my own. Wound up getting a 5.

The reason he's making you buy the REA book is most likely because he will be making references to it or teaching from it later on. Even if he didn't make it required I would still buy it under that situation.

REA and AMSCO are both very nice guides from what I've heard and after flipping through both of them I think they're pretty similar. I'm personally going to use both of them, AMSCO along the school year with pagent and REA six weeks before the exam.
