I heard traffic AND public transportation in LA are both atrocious. You can't go anywhere without a car, but you can't go anywhere in a car either because of the traffic.

Well, if you really want to go to LA for college then you should, but I personally wouldn't want to go there because of the heat. And I agree with futurenyustudent that the whole split thing is rather stupid.

Yea I'm from San Francisco and I'm used to and love the cold year long and the fog! yea I agree the change in heat would definetely be a problem, and excuse me for saying so but I get the feeling futurenyustudent doesn't like California. and fyi california is the best state in the country

It probably depends on where in LA you are, but the place where I was, it was HORRIBLE. I was moving 5 miles an hour on some highway for at least 30 minutes (from Fullerton/Anaheim to LA)... it was ridiculous. And hot. Summer afternoons aren't exactly the best time to move about.

i live in so cal and yeah the traffic is HELL! when its summer here, its not too bad, especially in downtown b/c it doesnt even reach 100. i like it here but i wanna get rid of the traffic

Maybe LA needs to invest HEAVILY in some RELIABLE public transportation...not the kind that doesn't go anywhere, but the kind that actually goes places.

Since when did LA define SoCal? There are other ciites like San Diego down south as well. I dont talk about NorCal and think only about San Fran.

Speaking of which, San Diego's public transportation system is like, nonexistant.

SoCal has awesome amusement parks!

Weatherwise:

If you prefer hotter, drier, smogier = so cal (especially LA). It is a desert.

If you perfer cooler, more wet, generally less smogy weather it's nor cal.

Magic Mountain kicks ass.

^soooo true, all we have is great america. which sucks

Haha. Yeah, pretty much (unless you count the Six Flags in Vallejo and Bonfante Gardens in Gilroy) nothing here. Well, tourist destination spots make up for it. Kind of.

The Nor Cal/So Cal split is probably stupid, but hey, it's fun :)

I've grown up in the Bay Area my whole life, and I LOVE San Francisco. I've only visited LA 3 or 4 times, but i didn't like it too much. Eh, there's something about that city that irritates me.

I live in SoCal (Manhattan B), less than half an hour from downtown LA/UCLA. I love it here. Excluding the, evidently, busy times, such as 7-8 AM and 5-7 PM, I've always found traffic fine. I can't comment too much on it because I have never live in NorCal or any other location, so I do not have anything to compare it to. From the visits to NorCal, I don't think its larger cities have less smog, etc. than SoCal. The smog levels, unless you're downtown, which most people only go to work so it isn't a big thing for us, is completely exaggerated.

However, I would be surprised to hear that many of the people on this high school board would have something to compare it to. I think it's just a stereotype that the traffic is terrible. I don't think it is bad. I get around fine. Plus, I love SoCal. Haha. I would stay even if the traffic was pretty terrible.

Here is what the American Lung Association ranks the cities with the worst air quality. LA is #1. The central valley also gets really bad smog, as you can see by #2 and #3 rankings. I'd hang myself before I lived in Bakersfield.

what is with you? how can you say that Great America sucks? wow...

I live in LA. I don't take the freeways because I don't need to so I don't have to experience the terrible daily traffic. I made it a point that I would attend college in San Fran. No LA/ So Cal colleges for me! Nor Cal just seems so different. I think it's more fitting for the kind of person I am. But the pluses of So Cal are definitely the weather and the beaches.

So in Aug/Sept 07, I will say hello to San Fran.
