@californianmom, I’m in the exact same situation…does anyone know of someone who’s been accepted with the “review” status the whole time?

No change for NorCal S, undeclared. Still being reviewed. Backdoor trick tells us he is not an authorized user. Still assume he will get in, but disappointed it wasn’t in time for the preferential timeline for the honors program application. The honors program is a key draw for S–and he is not sure that he would choose USC without it. (FWIW, his SATs are 2240, his gpa (UW) is about 3.8, including many AP courses, and his essays were good. By most standards, S appears to be a solid candidate.)

californiamom, be sure he fills out the Thematic Option application when he is accepted. (And I feel sure he will be!) Though it seems from these boards that the majority of applicants will apply to TO, in the non-college-confidential world that isn’t the case. At every step along the way they stress that it is a challenging program, and that scares many kids, exhausted from that last senioritis-afflicted high school semester, away. A significant number who are accepted will choose not to do TO when they go to orientation and sign up for classes.

One mom here had a son accepted in the last wave for Spring admission. He was moved up to Fall and applied for TO in mid-April. He was accepted.

Good luck!

Alamemom, I (too) expect everything will be fine and that S could get into TO later in the process. His concern is that he might be put into the position of choosing among colleges without knowing whether he was in USC’s TO.

In many ways, S would prefer to attend a small LAC–but USC’s amazing music course offerings, LA location, and the TO program–make USC a compelling alternative. Given the strength of the TO program, I am puzzled about the juxtaposition of the timelines, but suspect that there are other factors that I don’t understand.

Californianmom,

The mail service can be slow. I sent a letter to someone 15 miles away here in metro Atlanta and it took 10 days. You should hear soon.
Even though SC is a larger university the students seem to find a group of close friends and have their own “family” away from home. For some reason most students do feel it has a small school atmosphere despite being larger. Just think…Ohio State has 57,000 students! That is large!
It is great fun at our Georgia alumni social functions to meet with current students. They describe in great detail (with distinct southern accents) what a fantastic experience it is to be at SC. They appear to make quite a cultural change with ease.
Alamemom has excellent advice. One advantage of a private school is the opportunity to speak with someone in charge of a program and discuss options. If admitted, with those scores I feel there should not be a problem for your senior to enter the TO program.

Interesting, the TO program just extended their deadline for priority applications until tomorrow. Here is what it says:

“PRIORITY DEADLINE: MARCH 17 (extended due to system-wide website issues on 3/14)
• Applicants who apply by this deadline will be notified of
their acceptance status by March 31.”

Still waiting…

@californiamom

i’m also in norcal (bay area). i also applied undeclared, my status has never changed from “being reviewed,” the backdoor trick tells me invalid login, and stats are very similar (2220 SAT and 3.8 GPA… and many APs, excellent essays and recs, etc)

and this past friday the admissions office said no decision had been made for me yet… but a few people from my school who seem less qualified than me got in yesterday…

still waiting in norcal!

how do you check your status?

you login to your account and click on admissions tab. Then you click on your application link, and the bottom of the page where you filled out your application should be your status.

do you know what this mean? that I’m still being reviewd? Kinda worried after how other peoples status changedThe University of Southern California is pleased to offer the ability of students to receive online messages regarding the status of their application. However, all decision notifications are made via postal mail.
Undergraduate Application (Part II, Fall 2010)
We received the fall grades we requested, and require no additional information at this time. We will mail decisions to freshman applicants by April 1st.

OR your status has changed within two days…

OMG!!! this wait is really killing me…I mean I have become so sick from this. My head hurts, I am breaking out, and I feel semi-depressed because of the stress that this is causing!!! I am like so addicted to this website and I am like on pins and needles wherever I am. MY friend thinks that I have become addicted to this website and he isn’t talking to me right now because I am on here… =( Anyway, I just wanted to say that I am still PATIENTLY (sorta) waiting!..ahhhhhh

Could admissions be sent alphabetically?

^ they’re not

Taytay, i feel your pain 100%. I’m going through the exact same thing

^^^ we will get through this time…

for those that applied earlier than the normal deadline. For example, the music school and scholarships; are all the acceptances sent out already? Or is USC still sending them out due to portfolios and stuff?
