This is basically a Linguistics version of the Science Olympiads, and it will be held for the first time this year.

There will be a live competition in Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, and Boston, but if enough people sign up, there will be an Internet Competition too.

And this will also decide who will represent the US at the ILO, International Linguistics Olympiad.

I wouldn't say this entails linguistics; this is all logic-based. I had to pull out pen and paper to figure those out, and then I see Asians at a computer solving them in their heads. Darn Asians! Guess I am out ... ;-)

these questions sound like computer science AP prompt questions... the principles are the same(using different algorithms for sorting and searching, storing information, etc.) or just basic logical thinking skills for the first one

i would be epicly pro at this but I don't think any of them are close enough to me.
edit: nvm you have to go twice to qualify for nationals. Although I need to see if I can qualify after first round, or else i would look like a dumbass. can somebody give a set of first round problems and answers and the expected score to qualify?

I had noooo idea what to expect, so I'm pretty proud of how I did. I dunno if I'll qualify for the next round or anything -- probably not -- but I'll be interested to see the solutions.

Since this thread is old... here's the new website: NACLO 2009
