North Campus Housing Question

My son applied for a specific program where housing is designated at Blackburn Hall in North Campus. Anyone know anything about this specific dorm or the North Campus location?

As you probably already know, there are three parts to campus: South, West, and North. South Campus has the reputation of being the party side of campus because a lot of students live there first year. It's like your typical "first year of college" experience, with double room dorms, corridor bath, etc. West Campus consists of the two towers (Morrill and Lincoln, these are divided into suites) and is the furthest away. North Campus, which is where Blackburn House is at, has the reputation of being the more studious side of campus -- a lot quieter, less partying (but still parties), safer. Another benefit with having three other roommates is having an in-dorm bathroom.

If you don't live around Columbus or have never been to the Columbus campus, here's a good link to a map that shows every building:

Blackburn House is on West Woodruff (number 181), which is within nice proximity to a lot of the academic buildings your son is probably going to be at (lots of labs, english, and art buildings, rec). It's also pretty close to the Oval (the grassy area that splits the campus into the two sides) and Lane Avenue.

The typical North Campus dorm is a quad, so four students live in it (it's a little larger than the doubles you find in South Campus). Most North Campus dorms are air conditioned (South Campus are not) and have your typical laundry facilities, etc. I'm guessing that your son is either in the Scholars or Diversity program? Either way, whatever program he decides to be involved with, he will be living with students also in that program, hence the living-learning community.

Here is the specific link to the Blackburn house, which gives you some more details and a room layout/image of the actual house:

I hope any of this helps.

I live in a north campus quad, and I know many people who live in Blackburn. My dorm is very quiet (I think this is due to the large number of honors engineering majors who live here). The quads seem small when you visit them, but once you live in them, they're just cozy. Having our own bathroom is very nice, and yes, they are air-conditioned too.

North campus is actually closer to the classrooms. As an incoming student, I was under the impression that it was farther away. Blackburn is also close to the CABS bus stop.
