North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics

Hi everyone! I am a sophomore in high school and am applying to NCSSM this year. I believe I live in the 7th congressional district. Does anyone know how competitive 7th CD is? Last year I took Honors Math 2, Honors Earth Science, Honors World History, Honors English 1, Health Team Relations, Animal Science 1, PE, and Band. This year I am taking Honors Math 3, Honors AFM, Honors Biology, Honors Chemistry, Honors English 2, Honors Civics, Honors Animal Science 2, and AP Statistics. My school does not allow 9th and 10th graders to take language classes or AP classes(they allow a few sophomores to take statistics). I’ve always had straight A’s and my weighted GPA is 4.25 but will be 4.4 something after this year. (At my school an A in honors counts as 4.5 and AP is 5) I’m in STEM, HOSA, and ASL Clubs and am an officer in ASL Club. I went to the NCSU Engineering Camp over the summer and my group won out of all of the groups doing polarization. I also work with a paraplegic woman and have a few hundred hours of community service from that. I got a 1360 on the SAT (630 in English and 730 in math) but plan to take it again in January and actually study this time lol. What do you guys think my chances of getting in are?

I’m a current senior at NCSSM but I unfortunately don’t know much about district 7 specifically.
I think you have a fairly good shot but there is something to be said about NCSSM admissions. They are looking for a very unique spark in their students and a lot depends on your essays.

Hello! I’m currently an 8th grader in CD 4. I’m wondering what courses I should take in Highschool to get into NCSSM. By the end of Freshman year at Enloe, I will be done with Honors Pre-calc, Spanish 3 Honors, English 2 Honors, Chem honors. I volunteer at a computer repair and donate place as well as a city teen volunteer group. I am a straight A student. I have participated in Science Olympiad, FBLA, school coding club, dance and do an advanced math class outside of school. I will begin interning at a software place in the middle of High school. What are my chances of getting into NCSSM and what electives/courses should I take?

My last teacher submitted their recommendation today so now my whole application is done. Since my last post I was accepted into NHS, joined my church’s youth leadership council, and scored a 1420 on the SAT(690 English 730 Math.) I also found out that I am actually in congressional district 2, not 7. I have Science Olympiad on Saturday and that will hopefully be something I can put down for my application. I’ll let you guys know if I get in or not in a month!

Just wanted to let you guys know that I got into the residential program!!
