Has anybody heard anything yet? I auditioned as a transfer student from SUNY Purchase and am eagerly (?) awaiting a reply. I know they are not done with auditions yet, but I was just curious.

Also, if anybody (or anybody with kids) who has been accepted, denied, or waitlisted in the past (or present) could share their stories, that would be great.

This is probably the most unpleasant time of the year. I cannot believe I did this again. Still, NCSA is a school that feels so right to me.

UNCSA has on-campus auditions this weekend and next so I would guess they will wait until they have seen all the applicants before sending out letters.

YES! My son received an email yesterday notifying him that he has been accepted to UNCSA. He is so very excited. Here is hoping all of you will receive the good news soon.

I don’t think GPA matters as much as the audition. I could be wrong, but that’s my guess. I think it matters more at a university such as Northwestern, or Brown. NCSA is just an arts school, so I’m not sure how important GPA is. I would think a 3.0 should be fine. Julliard is all about the audition so that’s my guess. Please tell me if I’m wrong, lol.

Neither school looks at GPAs. I know that once you are at Purchase, you cannot make less than a B- in any class. They wont automatically cut you for that, but you could possibly get put on concern, warning, probation, or final probation.

At the same time, conservatories want smart actors. Even if you dont have good grades, they can tell (hopefully) by the interview that there’s something going on up there. Do not worry about grades. Its 99.9% based on the audition and interview.

I’ve only auditioned for NYU and USC. They do look into academics because its technically not a conservatory. It is conservatory style training with more academics than you would take at NCSA or Purchase. But they are more accepting of the BFA candidates because so much of it is about the audition.

I have no idea about CMU or Northwestern. I would imagine they look into it though. Especially the latter.

We have a friend at CMU and one at Northwestern… it is very much about the grades and scores in both schools—or at least more than the straight conservatories. I should qualify that by saying this is what we’ve been told, and both students we know were in the top 10% of their private school classes.

My son is interested in both schools and is taking the SAT over in June in hopes of being a better academic candidate. I think at Juilliard you just have to have a GED—it is ONLY about the auditon there.

Thanks, do your friends like it at CMU and Northwestern? I think I like the fact that they look at your grades. This way if your audition falls short, you have your grades to back you up.

CMU is 90% about the audition if you are applying for Theatre or MT. Northwestern is all about grades and test scores to get in then at the end of Freshman year you audition to be part of the MT certificate. NYU you have to get in academically and through your audition.

Is NCSA a good school 4 just acting, singing, and dance, or all of the above? I want to get in for music theater. Not just music or just theater.

NCSA is a good school, and a pretty good area. I love NC, it’s so beautiful. They have some nice hiking trails, but a little too southern for me.

acctressmom: You don’t have to apply just for acting? Can you transfer into the acting. I am thinking of going to an early college and then apply to Northwestern. I want to double major with journalism though. I am also looking into a program where you can get an BA/MA in journalism in just 4 years. So, I would have time to get a BA in acting. CMU looks good, but it would be worthless going to the early program. I would have to start all over again.
