North Carolina State RD 2020

Yes @motortrend . My S is international applicant

sidpet, Did your son apply by early decision deadline and get deferred? My son applied to COE and was deferred. We were assuming a decision would not be issued until closer to March 30. We did notice that the link to the deferred notice letter has been removed and my son as been assigned a “Student ID” number. How did your son receive his notification?

D just recieved her acceptance to FYE!

No @jdandpe he applied on Jan15, still being international one is never sure whether you can be admitted or be denied. It’s always a lottery of sorts.

RD out. Deferred EA from engineering. Put into first year. 33 act 4.3 gpa

I only applied RD but was just accepted online. Thanks @allogotor for the heads up!

Where is financial aid or merit??

@allogotor My S was also deferred from Engineering EA and accepted yesterday into Exploration. 1990 SAT & 4.6 GPA. Think we are moving on. Received Direct admits to Engineering in other similar and higher ranked programs.

My S was notified this morning of his acceptance to NC State. Kind of surprised others are not commenting. He is OOS and in the Business School. Best of luck to everyone.

@allogotor what was your unweighted GPA?

Also to whoever was accepted, can you please post stats? Thanks.

Would scholarship info be included in the acceptance letter?

My OOS S was accepted RD to COE

Deferred, OOS son got accepted into Exploratory Studies rather than Engineering. Has a 4.5 W GPA, 2070 SAT, 500 plus service hours, eagle scout, NHS, 5 AP’s with rest honors classes. School does not rank students, but he would be in the top 10-15% of the 550. Not sure if it was the two “c’s” he got early in HS or the his lower verbal score of 570. We were hoping his 790 math and 730 writing scores would offset verbal. He was accepted into a higher ranked engineering program, according to US News, so he is going in that direction.

@ProudParent2020 My S is in the boat. Accepted into Exploratory Studies instead of Engineering with very similar stats. We are moving on to a higher ranked school where he received lots of merit money. Best of luck to your S!

My OOS D was accepted. 35 ACT, 2220 SAT, 6 AP. Her weakness was GPA because of a rough patch early on (UW is 3.6), but all As last 2 years. Still waiting to hear back from all her other schools, but happy with acceptance at NC State!

@Anita61968 What major did she apply to?

hey guys, can someone tell me which is better for engineering: OSU or NCSU??

im stuck and i really cant decide.

All factors aside, i want to know just the studies side of it, not rankings but from an alumni or teacher or someone who has gone to both schools to check them out and knows it!!

Thank You!!

@BeastOfEarth Figure out what it is about the studies part in engineering that will make it the better choice for you and seek out current students/faculty in a different way to find your answers. Perhaps you can comment/message on Facebook pages of each school and email faculty. Good luck.

@BeastOfEarth , IMO NCSU is the best choice. Located In the research triangle, meaning great employment options for co-op and employment after graduation, smaller university, some experts say an engineering degree from there NCSU is more desirable than Duke. Not knocking OSU, by any means as I have family ties to OSU. A school can be too big, especially for engineering. You want to go to a school where u really feel they are invested in your success, regardless. Hope that helps.

^ Those “experts” are mistaken.
