north carolinians -- High Point?

I would love any information you might have on High Point University. It is known for any particular program/programs? What is the area like? If you know any students who attended, what were their impressions? I realize this board may not be the place for this question but many of you seem so knowledgeable about all types of schools, not just the most competitive. I'm just interested in a overall reputation (or lack thereof), not student stat specific. Thanks for any info you can provide.

I don't know a lot about the school, other than the general information anyone can find, but it is located in a great part of the state. It's very close to Greensboro and Winston-Salem. There are many colleges within the 30 mile radius, including Wake Forest and UNC-G, so there are lots of college students around. High Point is a very nice, smallish town, but it comes alive twice a year with the Furniture Market. It's also just short drive from UNC-Chapel Hill, Duke, and NC State. The weather is wonderful, very comfortable most of the year. Hope this helps.

I went to Wake Forest, worked at UNC-Greensboro for ten years, and had a sister graduate from High Point, so while I have no direct connection, I've been all around HPC for a lot of my life. Like many small, private schools without a particular distinctive focus it tends to stay under the radar. For all the years that I lived in Greensboro, about a dozen miles away, I rarely heard it mentioned.

All I know about it is that it's a Methodist University. I know that my pastor emeritus went to High Point years ago before going to seminary at Duke. I've always heard good things about it, but that might be because of the church connection.

"comes alive" is the understatement of the year. Hard to believe, but Furniture Market is a huge event. It also generates a lot of money, and my impression is that HP (the city) is far better off financially than it seems at first glance (the Rolls/Bentley dealership on Main Street always got my attention). I think it would be a great place to spend 4 years, but I admit I don't know anything about the school, except that it moved from "College" to "University" about 10 years ago.
