North Mountain Dorms mattress

Do i have to buy a mattress?..???

according to the cal poly website

Need to bring:

Bedding (extra long sheets, mattress pad, pillows, bedspread or comforter). Many students like to get a foam pad for their mattress. Towels.

it says mattress pad, so i’m a bit confused and if i do, is it twin size?..

I’m not quite sure why you think you need to buy a mattress, but you don’t. The XL twin mattress pad usually will have elastic sides to go over the eggcrate or other type of foam topper. The pad is also lightly quilted. The mattress provided will be extra firm.

They provide a matress (XL) and you are encouraged to bring a mattress pad to make it a bit softer. the mattresses are very firm. You may also want to bring a mattress cover that zips around the mattress to make it more sanitary.

Just so you know, the mattresses are covered in this blue plastic like stuff, so they’re aren’t like you mattress at home. They plastic won’t absorb anything, so that helps make them a bit more sanitary.

^^ I’ve seen photos of those and figured they must be a vinyl-type covering. Also, something like that will make it less likely for things like “critters” to live in. There aren’t a bunch of porous seams and cracks and crevices.

The best way to make it feel more like a mattress at home is to “build-your-own” with the afore mentioned quilted pads and foam toppers to your desired firmness.

Thanks for the tips everyone! You guys are great!
