North vs South colleges

I live in NH and before now, I have been looking strictly at northeastern and midatlantic schools. however, with cost of living so high near those areas, I feel as though I need to be more open in applying to southern universities. I am asian, and to be completely honest, am weary of going to the south and being such a minority (my highschool is made up of about 10% asian kids). also, i come from a liberal family that is not religious. I know that these are stereotypes, but I can’t help but feel like I’ll stick out like a sore thumb. has anyone gone from the northeast to the south that would like to share their experience with me and/or talk to me about the pros/cons of the south?

I’d be interested in answers as well.

Rice – 23% Asian
Duke – 21% Asian
Georgia Tech – 19% Asian
UT Austin – 18% Asian
Emory – 17% Asian

As in any region, some southern colleges are more diverse than others. Generalizing about 500 colleges is utterly pointless.

This question is asked about 2 or 3 times a year, and the consistent answer is “you will have no problem” being Asian in the south. That said, most large universities in the south have fairly diverse student populations and demographics. The south’s weather is a big plus compared to the NE.

Why not consider some of the schools in the midwest? There are lots of great schools there too and they are also lower cost than in the NE and mid-atlantic - and the same distance or closer to home.

Other schools to think about (don’t know your stats, though)
Many, perhaps most FL schools (public and private)
Vandy
UNC- Ch Hill
Millsaps
Elon
to name a few
