Thumbs up to sam’s pizza - had a slice on the way home and it was great.

Since we’d seen so many restaurant recommendations on CC, it was hard to choose, but we tried Viva Fresh Pasta (the walnut/portabello ravioli was fabulous) Sunday night and Monday night, before we drove home, we checked out Spoleto. Both of them were absolutely terrific!

Why have I not seen a mention of [Green Street Cafe :: Northampton, MA](http://www.greenstreetcafenorthampton.com/) ?
We enjoyed dinners there several times during campus visits. More recently D (an '06 grad) took a prof who had been a mentor to her to dinner there when she revisited campus just this past spring. It is so convenient to campus *and *the food is good and they grow a lot of their own vegetables and herbs.

Edit: Oh, I now see that at least one poster has mentioned Green Street (post # 17). :)

Jyber209, thank you for the Green Street Cafe link. It looks like a lovely place! We’ll consider it next time we’re there.

When I was at Smith back in the day (late 70’s), my parents used to take me out to eat at Fitzwilly’s for burgers, sandwiches, salads etc. Fitzwilly’s is still there and you can find their menu on line. I also saw someone mention Joe’s for pizza and it made me smile as that is where my Smithie friends and I used to all go if we wanted to get pizza out somewhere. The pizza was thin crust and a bit on the greasy side but reminded me of the great pizza I got as a kid in the New Haven CT area. Joe’s is a bit of a hike from campus and nothing fancy but we enjoyed it nonetheless. In the end, Northampton is full of great dining choices now as it was back then.

How hard is it to get into some of the nicer places over parents weekend? Should we make a reservation in advance? I’m assuming that my D will want a nice meal off campus at some point.

Iirc, some of the restaurants don’t ordinarily take reservations. But then they do on graduation weekend. I was always antsy about getting into Spoleto’s without having to wait forever but it always worked out.

my favorites are Green Bean or Jake’s for breakfast, Haymarket for lunch or coffee, La Veracruzana for Mexican, Paul & Elizabeth’s for vegetarian/seafood, Zen or Osaka for Japanese, Teapot for Chinese, Indian House for Indian, Amanouz for falafel/moroccan, Pinocchio’s or Luna for pizza.

Looks like we may go out to visit for the day sometime late Sept per D’s request (rather than her come home long weekend in Oct) and now I feel overwhelmed with choices of where to take her for dinner:)
BTW she is having a great time so far.

At that time of year, if you can go to the Montague Night Kitchen, do it. The setting will be sensational!

For this visit my D just requested Viva but she has a birthday later in the fall so I’m looking at Montague for that - thanks for the recommendation!

Mini, I just looked at the Montague Night Kitchen website and my mouth started to water! Incredible! We will have to figure out a time (reason?) to go there! Overwhelmedma, bon appetite!

Siam Square on pleasant street, I think… is a great place to to dine!!! IF you love Thai food or want to try Thai food you should consider stopping by. They have great tasty food that’s really fresh and best of all, it’s cheap! Hope you guys enjoy your time in Nothampton!

I just got back from a 3-day trip to Northampton, and this thread was so useful, so thank you, all! While there my dad and I had dinner at the Teapot (Chinese/Japanese), Thai Garden, and India House. Coming from NYC, I was very pleasantly surprised at the diversity and quality of Noho food. I really loved the Thai Garden in particular; the food, ambiance, and service were exceptional.

I know it’s too late for advice for move-in, but just a comment on the Route 9 Diner. You are correct that Miss Flo’s is on Route 9 going West not East and there is a diner in Amherst on Route 9 east of campus in Amherst. But the Route 9 Diner has horrendously bad food. Not recommended at all.

Agreed on the Route 9, it’s only acceptable as a stopping point for your designated driver when all the drunk passengers require a milkshake like, right now!

GO TO THE HAYMARKET! It is delicious and CHEAP. Teapot has decent Japanese/Chinese stuff and is pretty inexpensive. Osaka is probably better but it costs some serious $$$. Don’t forget to go to Herrell’s!

The best ice cream in the area is not at Herrell’s but at Flayvors of Clark Farm in Hadley.
