I think Muhlenberg is an excellent suggestion. If you are driving from DC to Dickinson you’ll be very close to McDaniel College another school known for “nice” kids. I don’t know too much about it besides they give merit and are not highly competitive, but since it’s on the way it might be worth a quick stop or some investigating.
My daughter loves Susquehanna. I’m very impressed with this little school.
If you are flying from Newark, check out Fairleigh Dickinson University, Florham campus, literally right next door to Drew. Nice scholarship offers.
I second (third?) the recommendation to check out Ursinus and Susquehanna.
Another vote for Washington College and McDaniel if you are in MD. Also check out Wheaton College in Norton, MA
In VA you may want to look at University of Richmond, James Madison University, and University of Mary Washington… all have beautiful campuses, and a great focus on undergraduate students.
“I am in awe of the fabulously helpful, insightful and relevant info shared by everyone…Keep the suggestions coming…”
I’m sure lots of suggestions are coming your way…so many are happy to share. But, @DoDEAMom18 , could you please spare us a few moments to share some specific feedback about your Ohio road trip #1 from last year (on that thread) ? Lots of folks contributed to that too and would love to hear… [-O< please?
@inthegarden The Ohio trip was a great success with excellent visits, interviews, and meaningful conversations with admissions officers. Plus October in Ohio is as lovely as all the brochures make it out to be. I will go back to the original thread and post the report there. So sorry for the delay… I really thought I did up a nice recap when I returned home. Love this group and want to share our thoughts for others making the same drive!
WE HAVE A NEW AND IMPROVED route… with room for some swaps but no more room for any new colleges. Loaded the first week with the top 5, slipping in a fast drive on the weekend to SC to meet up with DD1 College Junior driving up from Florida, then heading back up north to visit some more options or more likely re-visit her top 1-2-3 from the first week. Nothing that a full tank of gas, a cell phone, and a credit card can’t take care of! Flying in and out of Newark now ($500 rt from Europe), spending a night and day in NY Times Square for DD2 18th bday (of course must stand in line for stand by tix to Hamilton). I will post the route here but will start a new thread too and title it Mid Atlantic College Road Trip now that I understand the diff between MidA and NE !

FINAL ROAD TRIP PLANS MADE… Whew. So many great rec’s on colleges with terrific insight. I seriously checked each and every one for the programs, areas, NPC, admission chances, and vibe.
Fly into Newark --1.5 days in NYC with hopes of grabbing two Hamilton tix in the lottery. If not, great food and walking around then leave Sunday to start the real fun.
Day 1 - Ursinus
Day 2 - Susquehanna
Day 3 - Juniata
Day 4 - University of Richmond
Day 5 - Roanoke College
We might skip U of R and go right to RC… making this a 4 day week. We will then see U of Richmond in Week 2
Heading south bc we are connecting with College daughter driving or flying up from Florida for a quick visit. We are both so anxious to see and hug and love on her!
Week 2 - Drive up on Sunday night to Virginia Beach - Virginia Wesleyan U
Day 2 -
Day 3
Day 4 - we fly out of Newark at 10 pm so will be up that way closer.
SPEAK NOW OR FOREVER HOLD YOUR PEACE… any to add that ON THE ROUTE… Sociology / Psychology / Criminology / Social Work-ish … 3.66 … Loving Test Optional / Normal Test Scores -waiting for SAT this week / Interesting backstory / Clever, cute, witty Essay that showed her “we are the world” attitude (without using those words!).
Hollins?
Depending on your route to Va Beach, William & Mary?
Good luck on your trip. I PM’d you our thoughts on the PA schools–we just recently visited those three. Only one is still on the list
Franklin and Marshall is test optional and very enthusiastic about international students, their team name is The Diplomats. The GPA is a bit low, but they have a very nice campus and reputation.
Okay just mentioning this because I am originally from NJ. Seton Hall University is a quick drive from Newark Airport.
As stated above, Seton Hall, Fairleigh Dickinson (Florham campus), and Drew are all very close to the Newark airport
We fly in on Sat afternoon and then leave Newark area… Seton H, FD and Drew all were reviewed and nixed for whatever reason. I have sooooo many notes I do not always remember what was what. We did add Muhlenberg back on as it is only an hour from Ursinus… thinking we will drive up there on Sunday to ck out the area and then add it on the list for 2nd week on the very end perhaps.
@Tiredofsnow We are thinking to stop at W&M on the second week just to get a tshirt !!! It looks to be a reach for her and not quite where she would excel … but we love the idea of William and Mary!
@DoDEAMom18 I love William & Mary!!! No chance of getting my daughter to go there, but Williamsburg was always our favorite family vacation spot! We all have the shirt! LOL
Can’t wait for your reviews! I have time before my next goes, but I’m filing all this info away! Have a fun trip and keep us posted!
There’s a nice bookstore at William & Mary! And good restaurants nearby (Blue Talon, DOG Street Pub, The Trellis, The Cheese Shop). Have a great trip!
