Northeast Engineering Choices

Okay, here is the preliminary list of hopefuls for my junior d - what are your recommendations/comments? Her first thought was Biomedical Eng. but does not want to limit the scope, so.... now thinking of ChemE with a minor in Bio and is looking at (1) RPI (2) WPI (3) BU (no ChemE at BU however); Northeastern and Tufts Eng (as a reach and also not realistic because they don't give merit aid). Thanks!

UCONN has a Biomedical Engineering program that is very good, and run by one the most well known BME's in the world. They also have an honors program so that ups the ante as far as level goes.

Lehigh, Rochester Institute of Technology, Smith, U of Rochester, Bucknell

i applied to all of those but #1 lol

good schools

Spetsnza Op, all but #1 meaning RPI? Where did you end up?
Thanks for the reply.

Johns Hopkins U. Keep the BME options open.

Penn State, Udel

UDel, Carnegie Mellon, Penn State, RPI, UMass, Maryland, Lehigh, SUNY Buffalo, Pitt, Rutgers New Brunswick, UConn

Does Johns Hopkins offer much merit money?

I know Bucknell doesn't.

Penn State and U Del are on my son's list for EE due to reasonable price and solid programs.

actually I ended up at Carnegie Mellon (well, I WILL end up there come this fall :D) (long story I guess) I did apply to like 15 schools so that didn't even make up half of my list :O

I was scared off RPI by stories of Troy - also for some reason I don't really want to live in New York. Not sure why. WPI always appealed to me more then RPI. (and my list was already really long lol)

Also URochester has a free application, they are worth a look. Also Eng at Tufts is interesting because they have a lot of sweeping requirements for all students (I guess you would call it a core at most schools) that in combination with the increased engi courseload results in a "heftier" schedule. I loved the school and actually was excited bc their liberal arts classes seemed to be top notch and I might minor in a language or IR but it might be a factor.

About 80 miles west of the PA border is Case Western; top 5 in BME and solid ChemE. Very good merit situation esp considering its ranking.

yes Case is very generous with aid.

It was down the wire between there and PSU for me, I chose PSU due to the fact that I felt a bit mroe comfortable on campus, but for a while Case was ahead! :P so yeah both good schools for eng. in general.
