Northeast Engineering Colleges

My son is still trying to decide on a major but is leaning towards some form of engineering. He is considering the University of Vermont, University of New Hampshire and the University of Maine. He is also looking at Fairfield. Can anyone provide information on these schools along with any information on Western New England and Merrimack College? Any recommendations would be appreciated. He has a 90 average from a competitive private high school and scored a 1240 on PSAT. He is scheduled to take the SAT next month.

There are lots of great engineering schools in the northeast! We looked at all of those except Fairfield for my son He is civil e and they do not offer that. We felt Merrimack’s engineering program was too small. Wasn’t crazy about WNEU campus or location. He loved UNH (was his top choice at one time) but he didn’t get in (It’s competitive and S was lower stats) and they’re stingy with merit. He was accepted into UMaine honor college but chose to attend Quinnipiac. They have strong placement and cap their engineering classes at 24, which really appealed to him. Program was highly recommended by current parents. Do you have a set budget? Have you looked at Clarkson? We know many grads and current students and they have only good things to say. We were very impressed with Stevens in NJ as well. WPI, Union, RIT are also good options.

We live in NY and he wants to be out of the metropolitan area. We plan on looking at RIT. WPI and Stevens are both great schools but he does not want to be in Worcester or NJ. We have RIT on our list to explore. Will take a look at Union. He looked at Quinnipiac but did not like the three separate campuses.

Another vote for Clarkson
