Northeast Universities with beaches?

Hii. My question: What are some colleges in the Northeast with beaches nearby? Not further south than MD/DE.

I know of Connecticut College and Fairfield University... anything else?

This isn't any super deciding facor or anything like that so don't jump down my throat, I'm merely curious. :)

depends what you mean by nearby.

There are clearly no Pepperdines of the east. Other nearbies might include schools in Rhode Island like Brown (perhaps 45 minutes from decent surfing beaches), Yale, the Boston schools, Long Island schools (e.g., Hofstra appears to be about 1/2 hr away on a good driving day). NJ schools tend to be along or west of the I95 corridor, so they are 1hr+ away. Wesley is in Dover, Del about 50 minutes from an ocean beach. Going back up north to Maine, I am sure there are a bunch within an hour of a beach (like Bowdoin perhaps), but some of those beaches might be pretty rocky, and the water cold!

errata-- check out Monmouth in NJ...looks to be just minutes away from Asbury Park, beachfront origin of Bruce Springstein.

Rutgers is not far from the shore as Papa Chicken pointed out. Just don't try and get there during a rush hour.

SUNY Maritime in Bronx, NY. That's Long Island Sound, folks.

St. Mary's College of Maryland (which is actually a public honors, not a Catholic, college) is on the Eastern Shore of Maryland, right near the beach. They actually advertise the beach, water sports, and ocean research quite heavily. Just be aware that it's also quite isolated.

formerly part of Long Island University. Recently acquired by State University of New York at Stony Brook. They are located along the south shore of Long Island.

All Boston colleges are within 20-min or a half hour of great north shore beaches.

Salve Regina in Newport, RI. Beach is about 1/2 mile.

salisbury in maryland is about 45 minutes from ocean city

Chedva, would you really say that Saint Mary's College of Maryland is isolated. Sure, it's semi-rural/suburban, like much of the Delmarva Penninsula, but the college isn't far from a major road that will take you to Philadephia and beyond to New York City. I guess it depends on your definition of 'isolated.' It's a fine college nevertheless.

I only used "isolated" based on reports in other threads - not much off campus, and to get anywhere you need a car. See for example http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/showthread.php?t=232628&highlight=Mary%27s+Maryland. From Faline2:

St. Mary's is isolated. No way around it and it hurts its draw. On the other hand, they can place their kids in great internships in urban areas in MD and the four years there will be all about learning and friendship and the scene on the shore with sailing and water views is pretty therapeutic in my book.

It depends what you're looking for.

hey thanks guys! I don't really care if it's isolated or not at all. I live in nyc so I kinda wanna get away from that. Not that I don't mind being close by to another city, just not this one. =P

Endicott College in Beverly, Mass.

Monmouth is a gorgeous campus right near a very nice beach.

Another good college is NYU lol, not that far from manhattan beach, but you should know that school starts in september and ends in early june and in the northeast it doesnt warm up good until the end of june and the warm climate ends in the beginning of september so I dont know why you would need a beach during these times unless your importing merchandise

come to brown.

I second Endicott, it's basically a college built on sand. okay not literally, but its seconds from the beach.

well like i said, i obviously wanna get away from nyc. and i want a residential campus. with like a real campus and a real colllege environment. nyu is totally out of the question!
