Okay, so I got into Notheastern 6yr pharm program....
but i have no idea about how good its curriculum is..
is anyone accepted into pharm program?
I wanna know more about it before i make my final decision. lol
anyway I'm super excited that i got in :)

Generally when a university reaches a certain tier for pharmacy they only allow PharmD programs so they get the best people in/recruited right away. I know St Johns has a BS MS(which i didnt even know was an option anywhere) and PharmD. NU I know only recruits people for PharmD. It is difficult and I know some kids drop out and major is one of the other hard sciences. Let me know if you have any other questions.

bump^ anymore comments?

I'm enrolling in it actually :) (well i submitted my deposit a few weeks ago)
well its 4 years classes, 1 full year of paid co-op (separated into 3 diff co-ops), and 2 or 3 semesters of experiential learning or something at the very end of the program (essentially you work this last year of the curriculum again)
i heard starting salaries for NEU pharmD students start higher due to co-ops when you compare starting salaries from other pharmacy schools in the New England area. and NEU's pharmD program is pretty well respected throughout the boston/New Eng. area and the program has about 100~% job placement and passing board exam.

Here's a link to the usual curriculum a NEU student follows in the PharmD program:

i also got in and was wondering if you can shorten the 6 year term if you take extra classes. also, is it possible to be enrolled in the pharmd program and major/minor in something else as well?

I'm in the pharmacy program here. I've never heard of anyone not doing 6 years, pretty sure it's impossible. But remember, the last year is all clinical rotations, so its really on 5 years of classes. You can do a minor, but they don't make it easy with the way classes are scheduled. Personally, I only know of one person in my class (2012) with a minor (in psych) and she came in with a lot of AP credit.

Yeah, shortening the 6 years is unlikely... you're earning an advanced degree, not just a bachelor's, so 6 years is quick to begin with.

Plus you can't push up co-op, and you can't push up a lot of advanced classes because you have to be an upperclassmen. So even if you got out of some freshmen classes, I highly doubt it would influence how long you're in the program.

Hey! For people that got into Northeastern pharmacy, do you think you could tell me how hard it is to get into and stuff? The co-op sounds amazing, but it also sounds very difficult to get into from what I have heard…

Collegecrazyy - Northeastern pharmacy program this year was pretty hard to get into - my friend with 2050 sats and 4.0 weighted didn’t get into it and got deferred from EA and then rejected RD… and she had pretty dece extracurrics etc etc. I’m pretty sure I only got into the program because of my 2230 on sat’s and 4.2 wgpa. It sounded like a LOT of kids with higher stats had better chances of getting into the pharmacy program than those who had the average stats of a NEU applicant.

I’m not sure how your friend got rejected with those numbers, I scored a 1900 SAT and like a 3.8 GPA with only a few extra curric’s. They do have a relatively low admission rate but what’s the worst that can happen, you get waitlisted or rejected? The pharmacy program is a little tougher and even tougher because of the time of year.

hplssrmantcxox & jrand_neu - I think you also have to look at the transcripts for your friend. Did he/she take related AP courses (Calc, Chem, Physics, Bio) that showed that he/she would be successful in that major? (NU only accepts scores of 4 & 5 for AP credit.)

Colegecrazyy - If you don’t buy the lottery ticket, you don’t have a chance of winning the lottery. Go for it!
