Northeastern, BU, Emerson: What are my chances?

I'm currently a sophomore at Clark University, hoping to transfer to either Northeastern, BU, or Emerson. I'd be applying for Fall 2011. I'm getting really nervous about my stats, I would greatly appreciate some input on my chances for acceptance.

Communications major, French minor.
Current GPA: 3.1
On the boards for both the campus radio station and the band booking committee, and some photography for the campus magazine. I also have had an internship at a PR firm, and have clocked in hundreds of hours volunteering at a music festival all through high school. My advisor, who will be writing me a letter of recommendation, asked me to TA her class (I was unable to accept due to scheduling conflicts). I had to withdraw from a class, but have plans to make up that course over the summer.
I don't know if this is just a rumor or it actually counts, but I will not be asking for any financial aid.

What are my chances at these schools? Are there any similar schools in the Boston area that I would also have chances at?

what is your h.s gpa? Though you are a junior transfer, they will glance at your hs gpa…also how are your SATs? I think a 3.3+ is a competitive GPA for the boston area school such as BU etc. However, you might stand a chance…and applying for fin aid plays no role in determining your acceptance into the said college. I’d say depending on your situation, whether you are URM, SAT etc…and how you write your essays you might stand a shot. Good luck!

I right great essays, and when I’m in communications/business mode, I conduct some pretty winning interviews. My HS GPA was 2.8ish, so taking into account my college grades, would they acknowledge improvement? Do you think I have a decent chance?

Wow, I wrote that response literally two minutes after waking up, and noticed I wrote “right” instead of “write.” I promise that does not exemplify my intelligence :D

yea, improvement’s always great and will be taken into consideration. If I were you i’d try to definitely bump up that GPA and you should be set…a higher GPA would close to guarantee your acceptance to the schools you list. Also, have you looked into UMass Amherest? Heard that it is a pretty transfer friendly school…look into it.

Well I ended up with a 3.23 last semester, and the midterm report I sent in for this semester was a 3.4 or so. Would that improvement be taken into account?

bump? :frowning: any hope? haha

What’s wrong with Clark U? I was about to apply there but I didn’t in the last moment, I only hear good about it [ except the neighborhood] you can PM me about it if you want to.

The 3 schools you’re applying to accept a lot of people and not really selective so as long as you’re above 3.0? you stand a chance

For starters, I’m interested in communications. Needless to say, a small liberal arts college in the suburbs doesn’t have its strengths there. My French minor is also hardly attainable, I don’t know if they’ll be offering enough credits for me to fulfill said minor. They’re losing money, which is resulting in fewer professors and fewer class offerings (which were slim pickings to begin with). Not to mention it’s in Worcester, and impossible to leave campus unless you have car or plan on spending and hour for the tiny escort van to take you (and that’s only within a couple blocks of campus).

hopeful bump!

Hey, I am an Emersonian (Emerson College, Communications major) looking to transfer out. It’s so difficult to tell when it comes to your GPA, because mine was so much higher. I have met Emersonians with lower GPAs, but they were pretty interesting applicants.

However, I applied as a high school senior and not a transfer student. It’s much easier to apply as a transfer, so I think you’re still in the running.

I have friends at both Northeastern and BU, but, again, it’s such a different process for transfer students.
