How safe is the campus? Crime Stats? How is living in freshman housing on Hemenway?

Here’s a link to another thread with more links to a lot of information. There’s a safety section of links as well. I can’t really answer your second question though :(

Most of the crime on campus consists of stolen laptops, iPhones, iPads, purses etc. stolen after being left unattended in the library, dining hall etc. Don’t leave these items unattended!

Other “crime” involves dealing with drunk students. These crimes are common at most schools.

Otherwise the campus is very safe.

the campus is actually pretty safe. Hemenway is pretty cool, I lived in Kennedy Hall my freshman year. I enjoyed it because we used to run over to fenway park after red sox games, sometimes got inside the stadium too. Another advantage is that hemenway is a very short walking distance to Newbury St. Idk if you know what that is, if not–it’s basically a long street of stores (i.e H&M, Urban outfitters…)

The orientation sessions made me feel a lot better about campus safety. There are over 60 on the campus police force. It’s too bad that it’s needed, but heck this is a city campus and I’m glad that NEU is proactive on protecting the students.

The NU police is larger than three of the boston departments combined. We have the blue light system (that most campuses have nowadays), but we’ve never had to use them for any emergency, just drunk or homeless people pressing it. You also get a phone call, a text, an e-mail, an alert on the board on the commons, and an alert on the school website whenever there is a situation on campus; so far it’s only been for snow days.

Thank you for the feedback. I was concerned that the campus safety record was somewhat inflated and incidents were underreported. I am aware that terrible things happen on many college campuses (i.e. UVA , Lehigh, Drexel, Penn, etc).
