Hi, I'm currently a student at the University of Dayton Ohio and I was really hoping on transfering to Northeastern University in the fall of 2008 and wondering what my chances were. I was hesitant to doing this because I didn't want it to crush my hopes but I figured I might as well give it a shot. If it seems that Northeastern is out of my league maybe someone has some other ideas of schools within the area or similar to.

High School: wasn't too hot
GPA: 2.9
ACT: 23
Involved greatly within the school through sports every season every year and activities such as pep club officer/president and some student council.

College: University of Dayton SBA Finance Major
Projected 1st semester GPA: 3.3/3.2
Projected 2nd semester GPA: finish above previous semester GPA, had somewhat of a hard transition which my academics took a hit.
EC's: I'm participating in some events which the school puts on that benefit the community and surrounding area like Chirstmas on Campus and "Are You Afraid of the Dark" sorts of things
Sports: I'm currently captain of the Mens Rowing team here which rowing in Boston is huge so hopefully that will hold some weight.
I've also been in touch some with admissions office if that makes any difference hopefully showing I'm eager to pursue the school.

I'm hoping to transfer to Northeastern as a politcal science or economics major as opposed to a finance major. I love the area of Boston and just the east coast in general and I have this terrible gut feeling that my chances of transfering to NU are slim to none, so if anyone has any suggestions of schools around there or maybe some support because you have better self esteem than I about NU.

Any help/suggestions would be awesome thanks in advance!

I'm also looking to transfer to Northeastern for Fall '08. My high school GPA was about 2.6-2.8 and right now my first semester college GPA is around 3.7. The good thing for both of us is that if you complete 24+ credits in college you do not have to submit high school grades/SATs to Northeastern. So basically you're applying with a 3.3 college GPA which gives you a very good chance of being admitted. If you don't get in, there are less competitive schools in Boston like Suffolk and Emmanuel.

So as long as you complete 24 credit hours at the current university you do not need to send the high school transcripts? I just wasn't sure if it would be better to just send them to show that I've come a long way or not.

Also just curious as to what college you're at and why you've chosen Northeastern?

One last thing do you think a 3.3 GPA will suffice to getting into Northeastern because if thats all I submit I have a feeling that if I'm against students like you I've got no chance?

Yup, 24+ credits at a university and you don't need to show your high school transcript(so we would submit first semester grades and a mid-term report of the second semester). I think it would be better to submit only college grades. Schools like to see an "academic awakening" in college but they still do consider the high school grades if they're submitted so I'd leave them out.

Right now I'm at Elizabethtown College. Its a small liberal arts college in the middle of PA. I don't like it because its not competitive enough, too small, and too rural(plus the girls aren't very attractive :P). Northeastern is more competitive, bigger, has an excellent co-op program, and is in the best college town in America and thats what I really want.

I think the 3.3 GPA will suffice. If you look on their website it says the average GPA of transfers is 3.26 which basically means half above it and half below so a 3.3 should do it. Also, in your essay you want to glorify the co-op program(even though its not required) so they know you're really excited about participating in it and attending the school.
