I know tuition is suspended during the co-op but the campus housing fee continues? Also, how does one pay for housing while on co-op outside of the Boston area? If I have grants or scholarships would that money go towards paying for housing while on co-op? I’m curious how I would pay for daily expenses like food, travel to-from the co-op, etc. if (for example) the co-op isn’t a paid position; or, would I seek out paid positions to relieve this concern? My intended major is journalism and I’ve read other posts that suggest there aren’t many paid co-ops in this field. Thanks!!
Your living expenses are paid out of your coop earnings. The vast majority of coop jobs are paid. You cannot use financial aid to pay for living expenses while on coop.
thanks
If you stay in Boston you can do on or off-campus housing (after your second year). If not in Boston, some companies provide housing, and the school provides help to get housing in other cities including some Northeastern rented housing in popular cities.
As said, that’s out of earnings. In journalism, there will be a mix of paid and unpaid more than say engineering, but you can look paid co-ops only while searching, only relying on unpaid as a backup.
Thank you again! That’s very helpful. I contacted the co-op office over a week ago and haven’t heard anything, so thank you for responding! I’ll definitely keep this information in mind
Can you also tell me when transfer credits are evaluated? If accepted, do they review then or would it be after I accept their offer of admission?
I believe after. Northeastern is notoriously late with transfer admissions, heads up.
thanks - definitely good to know
My son did an un paid coop, he was able to apply for a scholarship through the coop office, it wasn’t much of a stiphen but it was enough to cover travel expenses and some lunches.
thanks that helps, too
