Did anyone notice that the deferral verification on the status portal is now gone?
yes
Anyone who was deferred a national merit finalist ? Is there still a chance that if admitted RD there will be NMF money left ?
NMF should be available regardless of RD or EA.
EA deferred and admitted to N.U program today.
My D was accepted last night into the NU In Program. She was originally deferred EA.
Same here - deferred EA and now accepted to NU In program - but full pay. Seems to be the common story here. NU In is being offered to full pay students, many with slightly lower stats than the typical accepted students.
@stepl100 - same on the full pay. My D is very excited. We await information on destinations, and wondering how best to match her w a destination where she is a biochemistry intended major. Are any of the locations best geared for sciences? It is definitly pricey, no financial aid @ $34,500 for the Fall Aug 28 - Dec 15. Havent looked closely enough to see other costs/fees needed. So im hoping the courses all apply toward her prerequisites/major as i dont want/nor can afford an extra semester just for travel - even knowing that a semester abroad can really shape a student/persons growth and independance.
As for the lower stats, im sure that being a fully paying student factored into her placement into the In Program. However, she did check the box for this on her application. We just didnt fully realize if selected, it is binding for admission. If she rejects the In Program, her offer is rejected for admissions. She really likes NEU. Her SATs were 700 700 = 1400; with 4.15 weighted GPA many EC in and out of school/leadership, music, theater, many Hs & AP scores of 5, great lors etc. she applied EA and was Deferred (surprise) however now accepted to In Program.
She has been open to studying abroad and was also accepted so far to St. Andrews in Scotland and Forham (safety) w a $25k package which was a great surprise. So on the gaming the numbers, i think my Ds academic record was solid enough for inclusion into NEUs “numbers game”. I think she was accepted to In because she checked the box. Again, our mistake for not realizing its binding if offered. We will keep open mind and wait for decisions from Tufts (ED Deferred), BU, BC, HOLY CROSS, William & Mary, and Brandeis.
I woukd love to hear from more parents/student on how the In Program worked out for them. And how the transition BACK at NEU was in the spring (ie housing, social integration, classes)
EA deferred and accepted into NUin. Didn’t ask for it and I wouldn’t consider myself low stats. I would love to see numbers of how many got accepted to NUin. There are tons on this board.
@RightCoaster has a kid that just returned from NU.in I believe. Hopefully more stories can be dug up for people this cycle - I may try to do that this weekend. They’re scattered over the forum in various places.
Edit: Found this post elsewhere, which you’ve probably already seen but hopefully that helps!

My son was deferred and then offered NU In. For Boston area, Lots of high stats kids from our school apply. 5 of them got in with 34 ACT and above. The other kids they accepted all had 32-33 ACT and good grades but were offered NU In. Northeastern can only take so many kids from the same school/geographic zone, so even kids with decent stats get deferred/NU IN. I also think they waitlist kids they don’t think will come there, and can’t afford to come there.
I don’t have a lot of complaints with the way they handle it. They are getting lots of applications from very well qualified students. They have to figure out who will enroll, and who should they admit/waitlist.
Last year at my school, 43/102 were accepted and 7 enrolled. They didn’t get a lot of bang for their buck out of those acceptances. It will be interesting to see how this year looks. And even though NU doesn’t count N.U.in or ContiNUe as accepted, those will go in as accepted in Naviance.
Oh… Also a Boston area school.
@LD3790 there is a chart on the NUin site for college compatibility and which locations are suited to which college you were accepted to. Maybe you found it already but: Here’s the link. https://www.northeastern.edu/nuin/getting-started/location-eligibility/
I was deferred EA and just got accepted into NUin. I got a scholarship for the spring semester, but not for the fall abroad. Is there anyway to get one or apply for one or does NUin not offer money? I really wasn’t expecting to get in since I go to a really small school and three kids had already been accepted ED, but I’m happy for something. My friend with higher stats was waitlisted, though, which seems odd to me.
@taratarataratara Was the spring scholarship need based or merit based?
@TomSrOfBoston it was merit-based. I don’t actually qualify for need-based, so I’m depending on merit.
I was deferred ea and accepted for fall. Just wanted to put that out there, because to an outside perspective this thread might make it look like all accepted deferred applicants get NU.in, and they don’t.
Not all deferred students get admitted to NU.in either. From the stats that have been posted, it seemed like I was in the middle of the pack for accepted students, but I suppose I just wasn’t what they were looking for.
stopped by northeastern yesterday for the first time. it was great but not sure if N.U in would be a good option since it’s not like taking classes at another college abroad
