Northeastern Fall 2015 transfer thread

Hello!
I’m applying to Northeastern University for transfer fall 2015. (Sending in application this Friday after 3 more people review my essay)

Here are my stats let me know if you think I have a chance.

Transferring as sophomore out of state in a community college in California.
19 college credits completed.
3.8 college GPA
3.0 high school GPA or less (foreign transcripts)
SAT 1690
1 letter of Rec
ECS:
Volunteer at a political campaign for local congressman.
Worked for Bank of America during fall semester
Volunteer at local non profit for child poverty.

I feel confident about my GPA and EC’s but am pretty worried about my high school record and SAT which I had to report as I was under 24 credits. What do you think?

Alright let’s get this going!

hey @jonjacobjinkle , Your college stats look great. What classes have you taken/what program at NEU are you applying into? I also wouldn’t worry too much about your high school record because they really want to see that you grew in the college setting which it certainly seems like you did (given that you’ve had a rigorous curriculum so far).

Thanks @JLM1234 ! I am applying to NEU as an economics major, so far I have taken English 1A, Principles of Microeconomics, Principles of Macroeconomics, Social/Cultural Anthropology, Abnormal Psychology(only B so far)

For Spring 2015 (in progress), I am taking Business Calculus, Introduction to Physical Geography, French 1, Critical Reading and Writing (English 7 highest English class offered) and an online class of International Relations (I’m aware the units probably wont transfer for online)

Thanks for your feedback!

@jonjacobjinkle , it looks like you are in great shape! goodluck to you while we wait for our decisions!!!

what is the average gpa to get in?

@JLM1234‌ much appreciated! :smiley:

@psk2017 Based on other past threads its usually at least a 3.3. However you can see how that info is pretty vague (could be 3.3 with a ton of credits or 3.3 with amazing extracurriculars/ difficult classes)
Therefore I’m not entirely sure

@jonjacobjinkle‌ thank you for the info . I hope they release decisions soon

@psk2017 I applied into Bouve College for Health Sciences and they said a GPA of 3.6 or even 3.7 or higher is what they want. It really depends on the program you applied into.

Hey everyone, does anyone know if NEU will be notifying transfer students soon? I have been accepted to a couple other colleges and have to put deposits down by May 1st. Thanks,

They said they start releasing after April 15th because people are still allowed to submit required documents. They plan to finish releasing all decisions by June 1st.

I wonder how tough the D’Amore Mckim school of business is. And yes I hope they release them soon. I have been accepted to other school as well

anybody hear back yet?

Nope

me neither.

don’t decisions start being released on April 15th?

Yeah, I believe so.

Hey all! I’m a current freshman at the University of Missouri - Columbia hoping to possibly transfer to NEU to study Political Science and English. So far I’ve only heard back from American University and Boston University and I’ve been accepted to both. I’m hoping to hear back tomorrow (since everyone is claiming that they release decisions tomorrow!)

Highschool:
-GPA: (from what I remember) around a 3.7/5.0 scale (I was top 18% of my class and primarily took honors and AP courses)
-Leadership positions: Student Body President, NHS Treasurer, Speech and Debate Co-President (also a captain for 3 years), Co-founder and VP of French Club
-ACT: 30
-Activities: Speech and Debate (all four years), student council (all four years), NHS (sophomore-senior year), French Club (junior-senior year), theatre (junior-senior year)
-Honors: two time speech and debate state finalist, speech and debate national octafinalist, district champion in speech and debate, Glory of Missouri Award recipient, school pride award recipient

My Common App essay talks about my experiences growing up as an Arab-American in a post-9/11 world and how I’ve used my negative experiences to help shape me as an individual and were influential in my social activism and involvement in my community.

College:
-GPA: 3.8 (I took 15 credits my first semester)
-Activities: Missouri Students Association (student government), Emerging Leaders Program, Social Justice Committee .
-I’ve been heavily involved in speaking out on social justice issues that have risen on campus, nation wide, and globally. Several articles have been published quoting my statements and activism.

when did they start releasing decisions last year?

@transfer1996 they began april 10th last year

@transfer1996 I think I saw your post in the Boston U transfer thread too (I also applied), you got accepted right? Congrats!!! Are you still trying to transfer out to Northeastern as well?
