Northeastern Fall 2022 Transfer Thread

Is anyone else interested in Global quest?

This is incorrect. NU has had a successful international first semester program called NUIN for over a decade now. NU is a very experiential learning campus In high demand, and NUIN is one way they can offer admission to more students. Because of the co-op program, many upperclass students leave campus for six month stints for co-op and the NUin students fill their beds when they return in the spring.
Like many other campuses, NU had a large overenrollment in this current year likely due to their success during covid (actually holding in person classes when most were fully remote) and going test optional. They are just balancing their numbers again with this admissions cycle. The overenrollment does have its issues, but NU is not sending students overseas bc of it.

I’m well aware of all of this. I actually did the same program at NYU. However, I do know somebody at admissions, and they do have a lot of overcrowding, and that is one of their ways to combat it! Thank you for all the info though, very helpful!

What major did you apply for btw?

Hi guys, I need some advice here. I’m an international student and I’ve already graduated from high school back in my home country but it is not equivalent to the US high school which is why I took the GED recently. The problem is I just took it this month and was wondering if I’m still eligible to apply as a transfer. I’m currently in a community college and I’m taking college classes only, I’m not enrolled in any dual degree or high school program, I have also completed more than 30 credits at community college. I’m really confused right now because it was mentioned on the website that you are supposed to apply as a freshman if you are in college and you’re receiving a high school diploma at the same time. My situation is that I have already graduated from high school in my home country but had to take the GED since it isn’t equivalent to the US high school education. I didn’t take any classes for the GED or any high school classes at all, I only took the exam. Do you think I should still apply as a transfer?

I would confirm with admissions, but I’d say yes apply as a transfer. You have the equivalent of a US HS diploma (GED) and you have college credits. Once you enroll in any college in America, you cannot apply as a new frosh at any school. The situation you are describing is called dual enrollment: in American high schools, while still in high school you can take classes at a local community college for credit (dually enrolled) but you are considered a high school student still. Once you graduate high school and take any community college classes, you typically are considered matriculated in college and then need to transfer elsewhere.

I’ve emailed the school and they didn’t give me an exact answer, I was so confused but thank you so much for explaining to me

Not so sure but maybe around May?

I called yesterday about documents being submitted and asked when decisions will come out and all they said was before June 15th.

*Also, If you still have things missing they are still processing a lot of stuff and said that if anything isn’t showing up as received within the next week or two you should call.

Considering they have the highest number of applicants this year, I can assume that the transfer decisions will be released no earlier than in June… The waiting makes me so anxious, but oh well.

I hope soooo

not me.

Just called admissions, they said that they generally get back to people on June 15.
Emailed my AO because I have to commit to another school by June 1, they said that they can’t expedite decisions.
sigh

Last year I saw people getting decisions around 20 ish of May, and in 2019 and 2020 there was a first wave around the 8th of May. Idk if this will be happening this year, but the regular decisions were announced earlier by Northeastern, so despite they said that, I hope they are released earlier.
