I was curious as to how often NU gives financial aid and scholarships. I've heard from many of my friends that they neve received a lot of money from NU and I was wondering if anyone else had the same problem? From many reviews and articles I've read about people's experiences, it seemed like NU was a school that has been giving out less money in the more recent years. Does anyone else agree?

It is best just to have your parents run the NPC to see what you might get.

If the student is a National Merit Semi-finalist, she or he is likely to get significant aid.

I was accepted into NEU back in December. I got a merit scholarship of $28,900. I then received around $2,500 of nee-based aid, whic considering my family’s financial situation is very bad. In the end my total award is 74% of the tuition, and 45% of the estimated $60,000 (tuition + room and board + books + travel + personal expenses)

So I would say that as far as NEED northeastern sucks, but there are good merit scholarships :)

Oh, and I was not a National Merit scholar. I I feel what helped me was having good grades, test scores, an 4 yr community service project, and applying Early Action.

@95Carol – yeah a number of schools are that way. It works great if you are a strong student from a wealthy family, but if you need more financial aid than what the merit aid meets, the financial aid is insufficient.

Being NMF means free tuition most of the time at NEU, whether you have need or not. NEU does not guarantee
to meet full need. They meet full need for about a quarter of the kids who qualify for need.

Nope, NEU isn’t giving free tuition to NMF anymore. They dropped it to 30K/year which is about 75% of tuition (and won’t go up as tuition goes up).
