Northeastern for engineering?

It’s ranked in the fifties for engineering. Their programs are all ABET accredited. How does it compare to schools like Georgia Tech?

If the program is ABET accredited, that means that if you are able to get at least a 3.0 GPA, you should be able to find an engineering job somewhere.

Fine school, very heavily into coop, I believe that basically a 1 year co-op is mandatory.

If a school is ABET accredited, you will get a good engineering education in the fields that that school offers (actually specific fields and programs are accredited, you should not attend a school whose program in say ME is not accredited and then study ME).

The 3.0 thing is umcoe’s drum to bang. The coop experience at NorthEastern gives you a chance to experience real world engineering work and maybe find an employer who will hire you, not based solely on GPA but also on whether you are a good fit to their culture (which is basically work hard and don’t annoy people). There are jobs for say a 2.5 graduate engineer, probably even a 2.0 engineer (if you get the diploma) but they may not let you design an airplane wing. Engineering jobs are so broad … some are technical, some are not. Some may pay less, but not below say $50K which is a pretty good salary when you are under 30.

Umcoe - what would you do if your GPA drops … curl up into a ball ?

You need to be more specific on your interests and probably should post on Northeastern’s forum, that one is very active.

Also what are you willing to pay ? What state do you live in and why are you not considering their engineering schools at a much lower tuition than either of these ? State engineering schools are usually very good programs.

Apples and oranges in terms of engineering assets, but engineering at NEU is on the rise. Excellent new engineering complex building is under construction on campus.
