I have been accepted to Northeastern, Fall 2011 term. I've also been accepted to Florida State, unfortunately the Spring 2012 term instead of the Fall 2011 term. I am deciding between Northeastern (Fall 2011) and FSU (Spring 2012).

I feel like I will miss out on freshmen college experiences by attending in January instead of August. The tuition is a huge difference, as I get in-state tuition at FSU. I feel like I would have a lot of great opportunities in Boston too, especially with NEUs co-op program. I'm not sure what I would do from June to January if I went to FSU. What do you think?

I’m from Florida, so I can definitely understand the decision between FSU’s and Northeastern’s prices. I choose NEU because I really wanted to just get out of Florida and see new places, Boston is very different than Tally, and co-op of course. But I also had to talk to my parents a lot about the costs. I’ll be graduating with about 20k in loans, my parents have about 10k, and then they paid a lot out of pocket (and my scholarship). To me and my family, it has been worth it. But I know a lot of other people would be worse off than me, and right now I’m worried I’ll have to put off grad school because of the money.

If I were you, I wouldn’t focus on going in spring. In the grand scheme of things, it won’t matter at all. You can take community college courses at home or travel or get a job, etc. But the differences in money, location, and type of school will matter. Ignore the spring admit and pick which school is best for you. And if that happens to be FSU, then you can figure out what you’d like to do until spring. But absolutely do not pick Northeastern and it’s price tag just because you want to move in during fall.
