So I just learned that I got accepted into Northeastern university BUT I was really hoping to get a merit scholarship. Is there a certain criteria you must meet to get a merit/dean's grant?

Generally you need to be in the top 25% of accepted students. Last year that meant an SAT above 2160 or an ACT above 33

^^ I got one and my ACT was only 32…so I don’t think it’s based solely on scores. I guess they just look at your whole application. It’s a mystery to me.

Is it harder for internationals (non-us citizens) to get a merit scholarship?

I believe it is generally more difficult for international applicants to get merit scholarships.

My son’s merit offer came with admission.

Merit is sent along with the admission in the side bar of the acceptance page. I believe there is some correlation to SAT scores, but it is not entirely based on that. My friend and I have pretty much equal apps besides SAT scores. I got a 2290 and he got a 2270. I received 25k a year and he got 20k, so take that for what you will. Who knows really.

Also my friend has a way better app than mine, but while I got 18k, she got 12k
