Hey, I've been admitted this year into the honors program. I was looking at the honors site and it states you have to take 6 honors courses, but I haven't been able to find a listing of which classes have an honors section. Does anyone know where such a list might exist?

Thanks for any help.

P.S. I'm interested in possibly pursuing a Chem Eng & Physics combined degree, so if anyone knows specific honors classes in those areas, that'd be great.

The only list of honors classes you will find are the honors seminars listed on the honors website page (under academics). These come in two flavors - freshman only and non-freshman. They change regularly, although things like spies is given all the time. You only need the 6 classes to have honors on your degree - you won’t get kicked out of the program if you have less. The required one credit freshman seminar counts as one of the classes. Also, any global experience counts as another (even if it is not the honors summer dialogue.) Honors sections for regular classes vary from term to term, they can only be discovered when you go to register by looking at the class schedule for that semester. That being said, they typically have honors sections for intro level classes ( econ, psych, computer science, etc.) However, there are definitely honors sections for the calc classes you will be required to take as a science major. These honors sections typically teach the same material only in a smaller setting. This can be nice because then you might be able to skip a recitation section you would have otherwise needed because the class is typically taught to a group of 100 kids.

The courses offered each semester are available in the course schedule on the registrar’s website: https://wl11gp.neu.edu/udcprod8/NEUCLSS.p_disp_dyn_sched
Once you select a semester, one of the options is “Attribute Type” under which you can select “Honors.” This will show you all of the Honors courses offered this fall. You can also look at previous semesters to get an idea of what else is typically offered. (Some are offered as Honors only fall or spring semester, for example).

kiddie is correct that the classes are typically just smaller, but they can involve some extra work (such as additional questions on physics lab reports), or in a few cases, it may be designed to be a different and more challenging class (the only example of this that I know of is comp sci fundamentals, but it’s worth taking).

In one of my classes, the extra credit section at the end of the final was a requirement (not extra credit) for the honors kids…

I’ve actually taken quite a few classes where the honors section was harder, often because the professor felt like we would care about the subject more than non-honors (regardless if this is true).
