Is Northeastern University in MA a good school?

It's alright, but nothing great.

it's not a very good school. a step above community college though.

who are you "smytty and sternman", where do you live and what do you really know about Northeastern?

I just did a quick briefing through the Northeastern Univ. site, and it seems like a decent school.

It's admission is pretty rigorous (47%) with SAT score average of about 1250.

I would say it's a good school. But really, the general people's standard of college in this board is really high (they think UCLA and Michigan is an "ok" school), many people would think it's a below-average school. I mean really, it's in the MASSACHUSSETTES. Harvard, MIT, Tufts, Williams, Welleseley, Amherst, Boston College/Univ are all in Massachussettes, and they are pretty tough competition.
Because of that, Northeastern don't get much recognition among students. I should say it was sort of shadowed by all the top schools surrounding it. But at individual level, i think it's a decent school. And surely, it's not just "a step above community college".

I agree dhl3. Maybe Sternman and smytty would like to tell us what colleges they attend or are planning to attend.

What does that matter RatedPG? Half the kids on this forum arguing Harvard vs. Wharton or Harvard vs. Yale are 9th graders who will wind up at their state universities, but they still run their mouths.

As much as I hated Northeastern when I visited, credit is deserved when credit is due. NEU is hardly an alright, or 'not very good school'. Northeastern is quite a good school.

Northeastern moved up 17 spots in the US News Rankings this year to be placed in the top 100 Universities. Many years ago it was not a very good school but to say that today is a bit ignorant. If the OP really wants information go to the Northeastern board on this site or to Northeastern's website.

I have visited Northeastern a couple of times (because I live MA and I can just take T), and I am quite impressed. It is a huge school in terms of number of students. It is in a great location, too. It has a co-op program and that puts most of its grads into solid career tracks. I think it is worth a look for most kids.

I was def. looking at northeastern a few weeks ago and it looked to good to be true on paper, its campus looks incredible and is going to be getting better, and the coop program is one of the best.....but cost was def. an issue.

yes, northeastern is a fairly good school worth a look like they have said above. It is mostly known for it's co-op program, and its location in the middle of boston is quite nice, too.

Fsu-uf, they generally offer decent merit scholarships to students with the right stats...you might apply and see what they offer..

Cost was a big factor for my son too. I agree their merit aid was very generous, although not the most generous that my son received. The COA is 41,000+. My son was offered 11,000 in merit aid (I understand that they offer upto 16,000 but I may be incorrect). We would still have been responsible for 30,000+ per year and tuition climbs annually b/c there were no additional grants offered.

Northeastmom, you are correct. They offer up to 16,000 in merit aid.

Up and coming school.

At the risk of sounding like a Northeastern commercial, they just hired a Dean from USC to be the new President. Go to the northeastern forum for all the articles, etc. someone else has posted them there.
