Has anyone (perhaps those that were accepted EA and designated NEU as first-choice college to NMSC early) actually officially received the NMF award letter from Northeastern?

My daughter was accepted RD with a $10K/year Excellence Scholarship. She designated NEU as her first-choice college last week. Do we just sit tight and wait for NEU to replace the Excellence Scholarship with the larger NMF scholarship? When would they send us the official award letter?

My son was accepted Early Action. He JUST designated NEU as first-choice. We haven’t heard anything, thus far. My husband is going to call them. He also had a previous award smaller than the $30k.

Last year when my son was in a similar situation, I called the school and they told approximately when it would happen. It is a great scholarship. We are glad my son took it and chose to attend northeastern. No complaints from this family.

My son is a NMF and designated NEU as his first choice back in early March and just saw the scholarship appear in his NEU portal account. We had just emailed his financial aid counselor last night asking about it (it was not showing in the portal last night), so I’m not sure if the timing was a coincidence or not, but you should check to see if it’s showing up in the financial aid award section.

My son is a Sophomore who has the NM scholarship. I remember that we had to send the NM finalist letter in, and then they added the scholarship almost immediately, and removed others. Best of luck.

$30,000 per year for freshman year, and then after that they split it up by semester, so it’s $15,000 per semester (which gives you flexibility with co-ops, etc.)

I received mine. It has to do with how long it takes for the NMSC to send out first choices. Make sure you get that National Merit Northeastern Contract in, or they’ll yank that award real quick.

Also, NMF scholarships generally tend to cancel out other NEU scholarships. 30K cancels out, for example, 22K given in the form of a Dean’s scholarship.

@DukeHopeful2014: When did you designate Northeastern as first-choice with NMSC, and when did your award officially change to the $30K scholarship? Also, how were you notified?

I designated it as such in January, but if you check the NM website, you will see that they sent everything for the first round at a certain date after that. Look it up, and you will find that there are multiple dates where they send everything out. That 30K scholarship did not appear until April; they notified me of the change by email and changed my financial aid and merit award status on the portal.
Hope I helped!

So, it seems at least those who designated NEU as first-choice college with NMSC much earlier (Jan-early March) have been notified officially of the award. Anyone with more recent designation (mid-March to April 11) received their offiical award?

I can’t find my award on the portal but on my financial aid status page it says “Merit Scholarship Contract - Not Received” Anyone else having this problem?

woods1234 My daughter named nu 1st choice before April 11 and just recvd her notification of the award 4/22.
We are still waiting for the revised financial aid award.

Hi, wondering if anyone can advise the renewal criteria for the National Merit Scholarships? How much GPA is required? And any comment about how hard it is to maintain.

This is the first year of the NMF not being full tuition - therefore the rules for the scholarship might be different this time. The one I am in doubt about is the 100 hours - I think that might still apply only to full scholarships (like university scholars). We won’t know for sure until they award some and people get their award letter.
